Help with EDD disability overpayment - how to process it?
Hey everyone, I'm dealing with an overpayment issue and trying to get my disability processed to cover it. Has anyone gone through this before? Any advice on how to handle it or what to expect when I finally get through to someone?

Ugh, overpayments are the worst! I had to deal with one last year. When did you first notice it? For me, it took forever to even realize there was a problem.

ā¢I just noticed it last week when I checked my account balance. It's so frustrating because I thought everything was fine!

I found a way to actually get someone on the phone! I used this site's (claimyr.com) calling tool that dials the phone menu, stays on hold, waits for a live agent to pick up, then sends the call to my phone. It does cost $20, but it works. Check out this video: https://youtu.be/1X-mEsLtbmQ

ā¢How long did you have to wait before they connected you?

ā¢It took about 45 minutes, but I didnt have to sit there listening to hold music. They just called me when an agent was on the line.

Here's what you need to know about disability overpayments: ⢠First, don't panic. It's a common issue and there are ways to resolve it. ⢠Contact the disability office ASAP. The sooner you address it, the better. ⢠Request a waiver if you believe the overpayment wasn't your fault. ⢠If you can't pay it all back at once, ask about a repayment plan. ⢠Keep detailed records of all communications and payments. ⢠Consider getting an advocate to help you navigate the process. Remember, you have rights. Don't let them bully you into a solution that doesn't work for your situation.

ā¢Thank you so much for this detailed info! I'll definitely look into requesting a waiver. Do you know how long the process usually takes?

ā¢It can vary, but in my experience, it usually takes 4-6 weeks for them to review a waiver request. Just make sure you provide all the necessary documentation to support your case.

Have you considered appealing the overpayment? Sometimes they make mistakes in their calculations. It's worth a shot!

ā¢I hadn't thought of that! Do you know how to start the appeal process?

ā¢You can usually find the appeal form on their website. Fill it out carefully and include any evidence that supports your case. And dont forget to meet the deadline!

Pro tip: document EVERYTHING. Every call, every letter, every penny. It'll save your butt if things get messy.
