EDD Overpayment Waiver Process - Need Advice!
Hey everyone, I'm dealing with an overpayment waiver issue with the EDD. Has anyone gone through this process before? I'm not sure what to expect when I finally get through to an agent. Any advice or experiences you can share would be really helpful!

Ugh, overpayment waivers are such a headache! I went through this last year. Make sure you have all your documentation ready when you talk to the agent. They'll want proof of your financial hardship and why you can't repay the overpayment. Good luck!

ā¢What kind of documentation did they ask for? I'm in the same boat and I'm not sure what to gather š

ā¢They asked for bank statements, pay stubs, and a written statement explaining my situation. I also included copies of bills to show my monthly expenses. Better to have too much than not enough!

I found a method to get someone on the phone. I used this site's (claimyr.com) calling tool that dials the phone menu, stays on hold, waits for a live agent to pick up, then sends the call to my phone. It does cost $20, but it works. Here's a video about it: https://youtu.be/1X-mEsLtbmQ

ā¢Sounds too good to be true. Has anyone else tried this?

ā¢I'm skeptical. $20 just to make a phone call? š¤

ā¢I get the skepticism, but it seriously saved me hours of frustration. Worth every penny IMO. They even have a money-back guarantee if you don't get through.

ā¢Can confirm, I used it last week and got through in like 30 minutes. Beats spending all day on hold!

The EDD overpayment waiver process can be confusing, but don't worry! Here's what you need to know: ⢠First, make sure you qualify for a waiver. Generally, this means the overpayment wasn't your fault and repaying would cause financial hardship. ⢠Gather all relevant documents: proof of income, expenses, any communication from EDD, and a detailed explanation of your situation. ⢠When you talk to the agent, be honest and clear about your circumstances. Explain why you believe you qualify for a waiver. ⢠If approved, the overpayment will be forgiven. If denied, you can appeal the decision. ⢠The process can take several weeks, so be patient. Remember, each case is unique. The agent will review your specific situation. Good luck!

ā¢Quick question - do you know if they consider medical expenses in the financial hardship evaluation?

ā¢Yes, they definitely take medical expenses into account! Make sure to include documentation of any significant medical costs when you submit your waiver request.

ā¢Totally agree. We need serious reform in how unemployment is handled.

Has anyone successfully appealed a denied waiver request? I'm worried mine might get rejected and I'm not sure what to do next.

ā¢I appealed and won! Key is to provide any new info that supports your case. Also, consider getting a free consult with a labor lawyer - they gave me some great pointers.

Pro tip: Keep a log of all your calls and interactions with EDD. Note down dates, times, and names of agents you speak with. It'll help if there are any discrepancies later on.

ā¢Hang in there! I know it's tough, but you'll get through this. Have you considered talking to a therapist? Some offer sliding scale fees if money's tight.

I'm going through the same thing right now! Just wanted to add that when you do get through to an agent, don't be afraid to ask them to repeat or clarify anything you don't understand. I made the mistake of just saying "yes" to everything the first time I called because I was so relieved to finally talk to someone. Ended up having to call back because I wasn't clear on the next steps. Also, if the first agent seems unhelpful or rude, politely end the call and try again - different agents can give totally different experiences. You got this! šŖ
