SDI Overpayment Letter - Where to Pay and What Info They Need?
I just got a letter from disability saying I was overpaid and now I owe them money. Has anyone dealt with this before? I'm not sure where to pay or what additional information they need. Any advice on how to handle this?

Ugh, been there done that. First thing you need to do is call them ASAP. They'll explain exactly how much you owe and give you options for repayment. Don't ignore it or it'll just get worse!

Totally agree. I waited too long and they started garnishing my wages 😠Don't be like me!

It was like 3 months I think? But don't quote me on that. Just call them asap and save yourself the headache

Here's what you need to do: 1. Gather all your documents - the overpayment letter, any other correspondence, and your original claim info. 2. Call the disability office. Be prepared to wait on hold for a while. 3. Ask for a detailed explanation of the overpayment - why it happened and how they calculated it. 4. Inquire about repayment options. They usually offer payment plans. 5. If you disagree with the overpayment, ask about the appeal process. 6. Get everything in writing. If they tell you something on the phone, ask for it to be mailed to you. 7. Keep detailed notes of all conversations, including dates and names of who you spoke with. 8. If they're asking for additional info, find out exactly what they need and when it's due. 9. Consider seeking help from a legal aid organization if you're overwhelmed. Remember, staying proactive is key. Good luck!

I found a method to get someone on the phone. I used this site's (claimyr.com) calling tool that dials the phone menu, stays on hold, waits for a live agent to pick up, then sends the call to my phone. It does cost $20, but it works. Here's a video about it: https://youtu.be/1X-mEsLtbmQ

Sounds sketchy. Is it legit?

Yeah, it's totally legit. I was skeptical at first too, but it saved me hours of hold time. Worth every penny imo

How does it work exactly? Do they just keep calling until they get through?

Pretty much. They use some tech to navigate the phone tree and then wait on hold. When a real person picks up, they connect you. It's pretty slick

whatever you do, DONT ignore it. my cousin did that and ended up owing way more cuz of interest and penalties. its a pain but you gotta deal with it head on

Has anyone successfully appealed an overpayment? I'm thinking about fighting mine but not sure if it's worth the hassle.

I did! It took forever but I finally got it resolved. Make sure you have all your ducks in a row before you start tho

That's encouraging! Any tips on what kind of evidence worked best for you?

Documentation is key. I had emails, letters, and even recorded phone calls (check your state laws on that). The more proof, the better
