EDD Overpayment of $810 due to Unemployment/Disability overlap - How to fix?
Hey everyone, I'm in a bit of a pickle with unemployment and disability. Apparently, there's been an overpayment of $810 due to some overlap between unemployment and disability benefits. The disability office thinks I've been overpaid, but I'm pretty sure the error is actually on the unemployment side. I've only gotten notices from disability so far. I need to explain this mess to the unemployment department and get it sorted out ASAP because it's messing with my disability case. Any advice on how to handle this? Has anyone dealt with something similar?

Ugh, bureaucracy at its finest 🙄 I had a similar issue last year. Here's what I did: 1. Gather all your paperwork - unemployment stubs, disability notices, everything. 2. Write down exact dates for when you received each benefit. 3. Call unemployment and explain the situation calmly. 4. Ask them to review your case and compare it with the disability office's records. 5. Request a written statement of their findings. 6. If they admit fault, ask for a letter stating the error for your disability case. 7. Follow up relentlessly until it's resolved. Stay patient but persistent. Good luck!

•Thank you so much for the detailed advice! I'll definitely follow these steps. Did it take long for them to resolve your case?

•It took about 2 months for me, but I've heard it can vary. Just keep calling and checking in. Don't let them forget about you!

•This is solid advice. I'd add: keep a log of every call you make, including date, time, and who you spoke to. It'll help if you need to escalate later.

I feel your pain, OP. The system is so broken. I've been fighting with EDD for months over a similar issue. It's like they don't even talk to each other!

Have you tried reaching out to your local state representative? Sometimes they can help cut through the red tape and get things moving.

•I hadn't thought of that! Do you know how I would go about contacting them?

•Just google your state and 'find my representative'. Most have forms on their websites where you can explain your issue. They often have staff dedicated to helping with government agencies.

•Can confirm this works! My rep's office helped me resolve an issue with the DMV in like 2 weeks after I'd been stuck for months.

Protip: Always apply for unemployment and disability separately and inform both offices about the other application. helps avoid these kinda mix-ups

Hey, I found a way to actually get someone on the phone at the unemployment office. I used this site's (claimyr.com) calling tool that dials the phone menu, stays on hold, waits for a live agent to pick up, then sends the call to my phone. It does cost $20, but it works. Here's a video explaining it: https://youtu.be/Ize0EkN4HDI

•Sounds too good to be true. Is this legit?

•Yeah, it's legit. I was skeptical too but it saved me hours of hold time. Worth every penny imo

•20 bucks to skip the hold time? Sign me up! 💸

•Wait, we have to pay to talk to a government agency now? That's messed up.

•I get it, but think of it this way - how much is your time worth? For me, not sitting on hold for 3 hours was worth the $20.

make sure u get EVERYTHING in writing. Dont trust what they say over the phone, half the time they dont know what theyre talking about

Have you checked your MyEDD account online? Sometimes they post important notices there that don't get mailed out.

This happened to my cousin last year. Turns out there was a glitch in the system that didn't register her switch from unemployment to disability properly. Took forever to fix but they eventually sorted it out. Hang in there!

•Oh wow, that's interesting. Did she have to do anything special to get them to discover the glitch?

•She had to be super persistent. Called like every other day and eventually got to someone in IT who looked deeper into it. Squeaky wheel gets the grease and all that
