EDD Overpayment of $810 Conflicting with Disability Case - Help!
I just found out I've been overpaid $810 in unemployment benefits and now it's messing with my disability case. Has anyone else dealt with this? I'm so confused about what to do next. The unemployment office keeps transferring me to disability and vice versa. It's like they're playing hot potato with my case! Any advice on how to get this sorted out?

Ugh, I feel your pain! I had a similar issue last year. Have you tried calling the overpayment department directly? Sometimes they can help sort out these cross-department messes.

•Thanks for the tip! Do you happen to have the number for the overpayment department? I've been searching online but keep getting bounced around different pages.

•Sure thing! Try 1-800-300-5616. Make sure you have all your paperwork ready before you call. Good luck! 🍀

I've been dealing with EDD for months now, and let me tell you, it's a NIGHTMARE. They're so understaffed and overworked that mistakes like this happen all the time. My advice? Document EVERYTHING. Every call, every letter, every penny. You'll need it.

•THIS. 👆 I learned the hard way that keeping records is crucial. I even started recording my phone calls (with their permission, of course) because I was getting so much conflicting info.

•Wow, I never thought about recording calls. That's actually a really good idea. Do they usually give permission easily?

•In my experience, yes. Just make sure to ask at the beginning of the call. Most reps are fine with it, and it can save you a lot of headaches later!

Hey, I found a method to actually get someone on the phone. I used this site's (claimyr.com) calling tool that dials the phone menu, stays on hold, waits for a live agent to pick up, then sends the call to my phone. It does cost $20, but it works. Here's a video explaining it: https://youtu.be/Ize0EkN4HDI

•Sounds too good to be true. Is this legit? Has anyone else tried it?

•I was skeptical at first too, but I can confirm it's legit. Used it twice now and got through both times. Saved me hours of frustration.

•Wait, we have to PAY to talk to a government agency now? That's messed up. 🤦♂️

•I get it, but for me, the time saved was worth the $20. Beats sitting on hold for hours or taking days off work to call.

Listen up, because I've been through this rodeo before. Here's what you need to do: 1. Get all your paperwork in order. I mean EVERYTHING - pay stubs, letters from EDD, disability docs, the works. 2. Call the overpayment department first thing in the morning. Be prepared to wait. 3. When you get someone on the line, explain calmly that there's been a mix-up between unemployment and disability. 4. Ask for a case review. Sometimes they can freeze the overpayment while they investigate. 5. If they can't help, ask to speak to a supervisor. Be polite but firm. 6. If all else fails, contact your local state representative. They often have liaisons who can cut through the red tape. Remember, stay calm and persistent. It might take a while, but you'll get it sorted. Good luck!

•This is solid gold advice right here. 💯 Especially the part about contacting your state rep. They helped me resolve a 6-month battle with EDD in just two weeks!

I'm in the same boat, my friend. It's like they're speaking a different language half the time. I've started asking them to explain things to me like I'm five, and surprisingly, it helps sometimes. Hang in there!

•Lol, I might try that next time. "Explain it to me like I'm five" might become my new motto when dealing with them. 😅

Quick question - did you report any earnings while on unemployment? Sometimes that can cause overpayment issues if the amounts don't match up exactly.

•You know, I did pick up a few odd jobs here and there. I reported them, but maybe there was a mix-up. I'll definitely bring this up when I call. Thanks for the heads up!

Have you considered reaching out to a legal aid society? Many offer free consultations for cases like this. They might be able to give you some direction or even represent you if things get complicated.

•I hadn't even thought about legal aid. That's a great suggestion, thank you! I'll look into local options.
