EDD Overpayment Notice with 2 Jobs - Need Help Adjusting Claim
Hey everyone, I'm in a bit of a pickle. I got this overpayment notice in the mail for my unemployment benefits, and I'm not sure what to do. I've got two jobs - one main gig that got affected by disability, and I'm also taking care of my mom who has dementia. The notice seems to include days where I wasn't at my main job but was still doing caregiving. I'm trying to figure out how to adjust my claim and determine if I actually owe anything. Has anyone dealt with something similar? Any advice on what documents I might need or what steps to take next?

Ugh, overpayment notices are the worst! 😫 I had a similar situation last year. First thing you should do is gather all your work schedules and any documentation about your caregiving duties. Then call EDD and explain your situation. Be prepared for a long wait time tho!

•Thanks for the advice! Did you have to provide any specific forms for the caregiving part? I'm worried they might not consider that as 'work'.

•For caregiving, I had to get a letter from my mom's doctor explaining her condition and why she needed care. It helped a lot in my case. Good luck!

I found a way to actually get someone on the phone. I used this site's (claimyr.com) calling tool that dials the phone menu, stays on hold, waits for a live agent to pick up, then sends the call to my phone. It does cost $20, but it works. Here's a video about it: https://youtu.be/1X-mEsLtbmQ

•Sounds too good to be true. Is this legit? Anyone else tried it?

•Yeah, it's legit. I was skeptical at first too, but it saved me hours of frustration. Worth every penny imo.

•$20 to actually talk to a human? 🤔 EDD's customer service is a joke fr

•I know, right? But when you've been trying to get through for weeks, sometimes you gotta do what you gotta do. 🤷♂️

Here's what you need to do: 1. Gather all documentation: work schedules, paystubs, any medical records for your disability, and documentation about your caregiving duties. 2. Write a detailed explanation of your situation, including dates and hours worked for both jobs. 3. Request a phone interview with EDD. Be persistent! 4. During the interview, explain your situation clearly and provide all your documentation. 5. If they still insist on overpayment, you can file an appeal. Remember, you have rights! Don't let them intimidate you. If you reported your income correctly, you should be fine. Good luck!

Quick question - when you say you have two jobs, were you reporting income from both to EDD? That might be where the confusion is coming from.

•Yeah, I reported both. But I think they might have misunderstood the caregiving part. It's not a traditional job with paystubs and all that.

•Ah, gotcha. Yea, that can def complicate things. Make sure you have some kind of documentation for the caregiving hours. Even a log you kept yourself could help.

Hey OP, just a heads up - be careful about what you say to EDD. They can use anything you tell them against you. Might be worth talking to a lawyer who specializes in unemployment issues before you call them.
