EDD overpaid me by 3 days on my disability check - what should I do?
Hey everyone, I just realized I got overpaid by disability. They gave me 3 extra days on my check. Has anyone else had this happen? What should I do about it?

Ugh, this happened to me last year. It's such a pain to deal with. Did you get any kind of notice from EDD about the overpayment?

•No, I didn't get any notice. That's why I'm so confused. Should I just wait for them to contact me?

•Honestly, I'd recommend being proactive and contacting them first. It'll save you headaches down the road. Trust me, I learned the hard way 😩

•Yeah, def dont wait. EDD can be slow AF and you dont want interest piling up if they decide you owe them $$

Listen up, because this is important. DO NOT SPEND THAT MONEY. Set it aside in a separate account if you can. Here's what you need to do: 1. Document everything. Write down the exact amount you were overpaid and when you noticed it. 2. Call EDD immediately. Be prepared to wait on hold for a long time. 3. When you get through, explain the situation calmly and ask for guidance on how to repay the overpayment. 4. Request a written statement of the overpayment for your records. 5. If they set up a repayment plan, make sure you understand all the terms. 6. Keep ALL correspondence related to this issue. Remember, it's not your fault this happened, but it is your responsibility to fix it. Good luck!

•Terrible advice. Don't do this, OP. EDD will find out eventually and you'll be in a world of hurt.

I found a method to get someone on the phone at EDD. I used this site's (claimyr.com) calling tool that dials the phone menu, stays on hold, waits for a live agent to pick up, then sends the call to my phone. It does cost $20, but it works. Here's a video about it: https://youtu.be/1X-mEsLtbmQ

•Sounds sketchy. Is this legit?

•Yeah, it's totally legit. I was skeptical at first too, but it saved me hours of hold time. Worth every penny imo

•Wait, you have to PAY to talk to EDD? That's messed up 😤

•I get it, but think about how much your time is worth. I'd rather pay $20 than waste an entire day on hold.

This whole system is so broken. Why can't they just get their act together and stop messing with people's livelihoods? 🤬

Quick question - how much was the overpayment? If it's a small amount, they might just let it slide. I had a friend who was overpaid by like $50 and they never came after him for it.

•It's about $300. Not sure if that's considered small or not in their eyes.

•Oof, yeah that's probably enough for them to care. Def follow the advice others have given and contact them ASAP.

I went through something similar a few months ago with a different amount. The key thing is to act fast - EDD has a way of making these situations way more complicated if you wait. When I called, I had to explain that I noticed the overpayment myself and wanted to resolve it immediately. They actually seemed appreciative that I was being proactive about it. Just make sure you have your case number and all your payment details ready when you call. Also, if you do end up owing money back, ask about payment plan options - they're usually pretty reasonable about setting something up that works with your budget.
