SDI only paid 9 days instead of approved 14 - how to fix?

Hey everyone, I'm having an issue with my disability payments. I was approved for 14 days, but I only received payment for 9 days. My doctor signed me off until next year, and all the paperwork should be on file. Has anyone else experienced this? Any advice on how to get this resolved? I'm worried about missing out on those extra days of pay.

Ugh, that sucks! I had a similar issue last month. Have you tried calling them? Be prepared to wait on hold forever tho 🙄

I've been trying to call but no luck getting through. It's so frustrating!

Pro tip: call right when they open. You might have better luck getting through.

Calling is useless these days. I spent 3 hours on hold last week and got disconnected 😡

Check your online account if you haven't already. Sometimes there's info there about why payments are different than expected.

I found a way to actually get someone on the phone. I used this site's (claimyr.com) calling tool that dials the phone menu, stays on hold, waits for a live agent to pick up, then sends the call to my phone. It does cost $20, but it works. Here's a video about it: https://youtu.be/1X-mEsLtbmQ

Sounds too good to be true. Does it really work?

True, but consider how much your time is worth. For me, it was totally worth it to avoid the headache.

Here's what you need to do: 1. Double-check all your paperwork. Make sure the dates on your doctor's note match what you're claiming. 2. Log into your online account and look for any messages or notices about your claim. 3. If you can't find anything there, you'll need to contact them directly. Try calling early in the morning or late in the afternoon for shorter wait times. 4. If you can't get through by phone, send a secure message through your online account. Be specific about the discrepancy. 5. Keep a record of all your attempts to contact them. 6. If all else fails, contact your local state representative's office. They can sometimes help push things through. Remember, persistence is key. Don't give up!

This happened to me last year. Turns out there was a glitch in their system. Took forever to get it sorted, but I eventually got my missing days paid. Hang in there!

The whole system is broken af. They need to hire more people or upgrade their tech or something. Its ridiculous we have to jump through so many hoops just to get what we're owed.

Preach! 🙌 It's like they're trying to make it as difficult as possible.

For real. I've been dealing with this nonsense for months. Ready to give up tbh

I went through something similar a few months ago! In my case, it turned out they had only processed part of my claim due to missing documentation on their end, even though I had submitted everything. What worked for me was sending a secure message through the online portal with specific details - the exact dates I was approved for vs. what I received payment for, along with my doctor's note reference number. They responded within a week and issued the back payment. Also make sure to mention that your doctor has already cleared you through next year so they know the full scope. Keep pushing - you deserve what you were approved for!

This is super helpful! I'm dealing with something similar right now. Did you have to provide any additional documentation when you sent the secure message, or was referencing the doctor's note number enough? I'm worried they'll ask for more paperwork and delay things even further.

I had almost the exact same issue earlier this year! Got approved for 10 days but only received payment for 6. After calling multiple times with no luck, I ended up filing an appeal through their online system. It took about 3 weeks, but they eventually processed the missing days and sent me the back payment. The key is to be super specific about the dates - write down exactly which days you were approved for versus which ones you got paid for. Also, if you have your doctor's note handy, reference the specific dates on that document when you contact them. It's frustrating but definitely worth pursuing since that's money you're legally entitled to!

Thanks for sharing your experience! Filing an appeal sounds like a good backup plan if the other methods don't work. Did you have to provide any specific forms when you filed the appeal, or was it pretty straightforward through the online system? I'm new to all this and want to make sure I have all my ducks in a row before I start the process.

I had this exact same problem a couple months back! Turned out there was a processing error where they only counted weekdays and excluded weekends from my approved period, even though my doctor had cleared me for consecutive calendar days. What finally worked for me was logging into the online portal and submitting a "Payment Inquiry" form (it's under the "Contact Us" section). I attached a copy of my doctor's note and wrote out the specific date range I was approved for vs what I actually received payment for. They responded within 10 business days and issued the missing payment as a separate deposit. Way faster than trying to get through on the phone! Make sure you keep screenshots of everything in case you need to reference it later.

This is exactly what I needed to hear! I think my situation might be similar - they probably miscounted the days somehow. I'm going to try the Payment Inquiry form route first since it sounds way more efficient than calling. Did you have to include any specific reference numbers or claim details when you filled out the form, or was the doctor's note and date breakdown enough? Really appreciate you sharing the step-by-step process!

This is super frustrating but unfortunately pretty common with EDD. I went through something similar last year where I was approved for 12 days but only got paid for 8. Here's what worked for me: First, grab all your documentation - your doctor's note, any approval letters, and screenshots of your online account showing the approved days vs. what you were paid for. Then try the secure messaging system in your online portal before calling. Be very specific: "I was approved for disability benefits from [start date] to [end date] (14 days total) but only received payment for 9 days. My claim number is [X] and my doctor's certification is on file through [date next year]." If that doesn't work within a week or two, you can file a formal appeal. It sounds scary but it's actually pretty straightforward through their online system. The good news is that when they do fix it, they'll backpay you for the missing days with interest. It just takes persistence. Don't let them shortchange you - you earned those benefits! Keep us posted on how it goes. Rooting for you! 💪

This is such a comprehensive guide - thank you! I'm dealing with a similar situation right now and it's good to know there's actually a structured way to approach this. The part about getting backpay with interest is especially encouraging. I had no idea they paid interest on delayed payments! Going to start with the secure messaging approach you mentioned since it seems like the most efficient first step. Really appreciate you taking the time to lay out the whole process step by step.

I'm going through the exact same thing right now! Was approved for 10 days but only got paid for 7. Reading through all these responses is super helpful - sounds like this is unfortunately pretty common with EDD. I'm definitely going to try the secure messaging route first since multiple people mentioned it worked for them. Has anyone had luck with the weekend vs weekday issue that Emma mentioned? I'm wondering if that might be what happened in my case too since my approved period included a weekend. Thanks for posting this question - at least now I know I'm not alone in dealing with this mess!

@Ava Martinez You re'definitely not alone! I m'new here but seeing all these similar stories is both frustrating and reassuring. The weekend vs weekday thing that @Emma Wilson mentioned really caught my attention too - that could explain a lot of these payment discrepancies. It seems like EDD s system'might have some weird quirks in how it calculates consecutive days. I m bookmarking'this thread because there s so'much good advice here. Really hoping the secure messaging approach works for both of us! Keep me posted on how it goes for you.
