Was a bit nervous or untrusting at first, but my calls went thru. First time the wait was a bit long but their customer chat line on their page was helpful and put me at ease that I would receive my call. Quick question - did you receive a notice about the overpayment? There should be instructions on there about how to proceed. If you didn't get one, that could be part of the problem.
I got an email about it yesterday, but it didn't have much info. Just said there was an overpayment and my benefits were on hold.

Get a lawyer ASAP!!! This is slam dunk case for wrongful termination. Most labor lawyers will take it on contingency if the case is strong enough.
Any recommendations on how to find a good labor attorney in NY? Never had to do this before.

i had to call over 200 times to get thru to ny unemployment last month. literally spent 3 days straight just hitting redial. the system is completely broken

they tried the same BS with me last year! kept saying they couldn't issue just the federal part. finally i threatened to file a complaint with the US Dept of Labor and suddenly they found a way to do it. don't give up!
Not so fun fact: ny unemployment intentionally makes these processes difficult and gives agents limited training on complex cases. it's literally designed to make people give up on benefits they're entitled to. the worse their numbers look, the better it is for politicians who want to say they're "combating fraud" or "reducing dependency." FIGHT FOR YOUR MONEY!

The 0 effective days is such a scam. If there's federal money available (which there is) you should get it automatically. But NY makes it so complicated on purpose so fewer people collect. Capitalism at its finest 🤮

what exactly does it do? just calls for you?
Yeah it basically uses auto-dialers to keep calling until it gets through, then calls your phone when it connects with a real person. Saved me hours of frustration.
