NYSDOL: How to report out-of-state wages when system doesn't give the option?

Hey everyone, I'm having trouble with my unemployment application. I need to enter wages from another state, but the system didn't give me that option. It's asking me to call them to finish the application. Has anyone dealt with this before? What should I expect when I call? I'm a bit nervous about the whole process.

Ugh, I feel ya. The system can be such a pain sometimes. When I had to report out-of-state wages, I had to call too. Make sure you have all your wage documents ready before you call. They'll probably ask for specific dates and amounts.

Thanks for the heads up! Did they ask for any specific forms from the other state?

Not in my case, but it might depend on which state your wages are from. Where did you work before?

I worked in California before moving here.

Oh, Cali! Yeah, definitely mention that to the agent. They might need some extra info for out-of-state wages, especially from a big state like CA.

Been there, done that. It's annoying af but you gotta push through. When you call, ask them if there are any specific forms you need for reporting out-of-state wages. Sometimes they have special procedures for that stuff.

Pro tip: call early in the morning if you can. The wait times are usually shorter, and the agents seem less frazzled. Good luck!

This! šŸ‘† I always try to be one of the first callers of the day. Makes a huge difference.

I found a method to get someone on the phone quickly. I used this site's (claimyr.com) calling tool that dials the phone menu, stays on hold, waits for a live agent to pick up, then sends the call to my phone. It does cost $20, but it works. Here's a video explaining it: https://youtu.be/Rdqa1gKtxuE

Sounds too good to be true. Is this legit?

I was skeptical at first too, but I tried it and it actually worked. Saved me hours of frustration.

For me, it was worth every penny. Time is money, and I couldn't afford to spend all day on hold.

The whole system is a joke. Why can't they just have a simple online form for out-of-state wages? It's 2023, for crying out loud! šŸ¤¦ā€ā™‚ļø

Preach! šŸ™Œ The government's always 10 years behind on technology.

You think that's bad? Try dealing with their website on a mobile device. It's like time-traveling back to 1999. šŸ’€

Here's what you need to know about reporting out-of-state wages for unemployment: • Have all your wage documents ready, including W-2s and pay stubs • Be prepared to provide the exact dates of your employment in the other state • Ask if there are any special forms required for out-of-state wage reporting • Inquire about the process for wage verification between states • Find out if there's a waiting period for benefits due to out-of-state wages • Ask how this might affect your weekly benefit amount Remember, every state has slightly different rules, so be patient and don't be afraid to ask questions. The agent should be able to guide you through the process step by step. Good luck!

Anyone else feel like they need a degree in bureaucracy just to file for unemployment? šŸ˜…

LOL for real tho. I swear I've learned more about government processes from filing UI than I ever did in school.

Hey OP, which state are you filing in? Some states are better than others at handling out-of-state wages.

I'm filing in New York. My previous wages were from California.

Ah, gotcha. NY can be tricky, but they deal with this a lot. Just be persistent and you'll get through eventually.

Plot twist: what if we all just moved to a state with better unemployment systems? šŸ¤” Who's with me? šŸ˜‚

Great idea! Let's all move to... um... is there even a state with a good system? 🤣
