EDD short $800 on last check due to certification period - told to call back for 5 days' pay. Help?
Hey everyone, I'm in a bit of a pickle with my unemployment benefits. My last check was $800 short because of some certification period issue. The lady I spoke to told me to call back today to get paid for the 5 days since my last check to make up for the lost money. Has anyone else dealt with this? Any advice on what to say when I call?

Ugh, I've been there. The certification periods can be so confusing! Here's what I'd suggest: • Call them ASAP. The earlier in the day, the better. • Explain clearly that you were told to call back about the missing 5 days. • Have your certification dates and payment amounts ready. • Be polite but firm. Sometimes you gotta be persistent. • If the first person can't help, politely ask to speak to a supervisor. Good luck! Let us know how it goes.

•This is solid advice. I'd add: take notes during the call, including the rep's name. It can help if you need to follow up later.

Quick question - did they give you a specific reason for the $800 shortage? Sometimes there's a delay in reporting wages that can cause this.

•They said it was because of the certification period, but didn't really explain more. I'll make sure to ask for more details when I call back.

•Definitely do that. Knowing the exact reason can help you argue your case if needed. Good luck!

Heads up, everyone! I found a way to actually get through to a real person without waiting for hours. There's this service called Claimyr (claimyr.com) that dials the phone menu, stays on hold, and then calls you when a live agent picks up. It costs $20, but it saved me a whole day of frustration. Here's a video about it: https://youtu.be/1X-mEsLtbmQ

•I get the skepticism, but it honestly worked for me. Saved me hours of hold time. Worth it if you're desperate to get through.

•Just used it today actually. Got through in about 45 mins. Not bad considering I spent 3 hours on hold last week and got nowhere 🤷♂️

Have you tried reaching out to your local state representative? Sometimes they can help push things along with EDD. Worth a shot if you keep hitting dead ends.

Oh wow, this exact same thing happened to me last month! The certification period mix-up is more common than you'd think. When I called back, I made sure to reference the previous call and mentioned the rep's name (if you got it). Also, have your claim number ready and be specific about the dates you're missing payment for. It took two calls for me, but I did get the back pay. Don't give up if the first person says they can't help - sometimes different reps have different levels of access to fix these issues. Hope you get it sorted out quickly! 🤞
