EDD only paid me for 10 days instead of 14 during certification period - $800 missing from check
Hey everyone, I'm having an issue with my unemployment payments. I was put on a certification period and only got paid for 10 days instead of the full 14 days. There's about $800 missing from my check. I extended my leave until December 20th, but I'm worried about not getting paid for the full two weeks. Has anyone else dealt with this? Any advice on how to get this fixed?

Ugh, that sucks! I've been there before. Here's what you need to do: 1. Call the EDD office ASAP 2. Explain that you were only paid for 10 days instead of 14 3. Tell them about your leave extension 4. Ask when you can expect the corrected payment Be prepared to wait on hold for a while, but don't give up! Keep calling until you get through.

•Yeah, it's tough but you gotta keep trying. Early mornings seem to work best for me.

I found a way to get someone on the phone fast. I used this site's (claimyr.com) calling tool that dials the phone menu, stays on hold, waits for a live agent to pick up, then sends the call to my phone. It does cost $20, but it works. Check out this video: https://youtu.be/1X-mEsLtbmQ

•I get the skepticism, but it's totally worth it. Saved me hours of frustration and I got my issue resolved quickly.

•How long did it take for them to call you back?

•It took about 2 hours, but I didn't have to sit there listening to hold music. They just called when an agent was ready.

Have you checked your online account? Sometimes there's more info there about why payments are adjusted. Might save you a phone call.

Make sure you document EVERYTHING. Write down who you talk to, when, and what they say. It'll help if you need to escalate the issue later.

This is so frustrating! I had a similar issue a few months ago where they shorted me by about $600. What worked for me was calling right when they open at 8am - seems like the wait times are shorter then. Also, when you do get through, ask them to put a note in your file about the missing payment so there's a record of it. Don't let them just say "we'll look into it" - get specifics on when you can expect the back pay. Hope you get this sorted out soon!

•Thanks for the tip about calling at 8am! I'm definitely going to try that tomorrow. The part about getting specifics instead of just "we'll look into it" is really good advice too. Did they end up paying you the full $600 back pay, and if so, how long did it take?

•Yes, I did get the full $600 back! It took about 10 business days once they actually processed the correction. The key was being persistent and making sure they understood exactly which certification period was wrong. They had to manually adjust it in their system. Definitely push for a timeline when you call - don't let them brush you off with vague promises.

I'm dealing with a similar issue right now! EDD underpaid me by about $500 last week. From what I've learned lurking on here, it seems like their system has been having a lot of glitches lately. I'm planning to call first thing Monday morning - heard 8am is the best time to get through. Really hope they can sort this out quickly for both of us. It's so stressful when you're already dealing with disability issues and then have to worry about missing payments too. Keep us updated on how it goes!

•Ugh, this is such a common issue lately! $500 is no joke either. I'm really hoping they get their system fixed soon because it's causing so much stress for everyone. The 8am tip seems to be the consensus here - I might try that too for a different issue I'm having. Good luck on Monday! Fingers crossed you get through quickly and they can fix it right away. These payment glitches are the last thing we need when we're already dealing with health issues 😞

I'm sorry this happened to you! I had a similar experience where they only paid me for part of my certification period. What helped me was calling the EDD technical support line (not the regular claims line) at 1-800-300-5616. They were actually more helpful with payment discrepancies than the main line. Also, make sure to check if there were any work search requirements or other conditions you might have missed during that period - sometimes they'll dock pay for that. If it's truly a system error, they should be able to see it in your account and process the back pay. The whole process took about 2 weeks for me once I got through to the right person. Don't give up - you're entitled to that money!

•Thanks for sharing that technical support number! I didn't even know there was a separate line for payment issues. That's super helpful. I'm curious - when you called that number, did they transfer you around or were you able to speak directly with someone who could actually fix the payment discrepancy? And good point about double-checking work search requirements, though I think for disability it might be different rules. Definitely going to try this number before dealing with the main line!

This is so frustrating but unfortunately pretty common lately! I went through something similar a few months ago where they underpaid me by almost $700. Here's what worked for me: Call right at 8am when they open - the wait times are much shorter then. When you get through, don't just accept "we'll look into it" as an answer. Ask them to pull up your certification period and verify the exact dates you certified for vs what you were paid for. Make sure they put detailed notes in your file about the discrepancy. Also ask for a specific timeline on when the back pay will be processed - mine took about 2 weeks once they actually fixed it in the system. Keep calling back if they don't follow through on their timeline. It's a pain but you'll get your money! Stay persistent and document everything.

•This is really solid advice! The part about asking them to verify the exact dates you certified for vs what you were paid for is brilliant - that gives them something concrete to look at instead of just vague promises. I'm definitely going to use that approach when I call. $700 is a huge underpayment, I'm glad you were able to get it sorted eventually. Did you have to call multiple times during those 2 weeks to follow up, or did they actually stick to their timeline once they gave you one?

I'm dealing with the exact same issue right now! EDD shorted me by about $400 last certification period. It's so stressful when you're already managing disability issues and then have to worry about missing payments on top of it. From reading through all these responses, it sounds like calling at 8am sharp is the way to go. I'm also going to try that technical support line someone mentioned - 1-800-300-5616. Thanks everyone for sharing your experiences and tips. It's frustrating that this seems to be such a common problem lately, but at least we're not alone in dealing with it. Hannah, definitely document everything and don't let them give you vague answers. You deserve that $800! Keep us posted on how it goes.

•Hey Sean! I'm new to this community but wow, reading through everyone's experiences here is both helpful and eye-opening. It's really frustrating that so many of us are dealing with the same payment issues with EDD. The technical support line you mentioned (1-800-300-5616) sounds promising - I hadn't heard of that before either. The 8am calling strategy seems to be the consensus here. It's awful that we have to jump through so many hoops when we're already dealing with health issues, but I'm grateful for communities like this where we can share tips and support each other. Definitely going to bookmark this thread for future reference. Hope you get your $400 sorted out quickly!
