Missing NY unemployment payment after certification didn't go through on phone - will I ever get paid?
I'm having an issue with a missing unemployment payment and I'm not sure what to do. Two weeks ago, I certified on my phone using the mobile site, and I thought everything went through as usual. Then last week when I went to certify again, the system asked if I had worked the previous week (I didn't), which made me realize something was wrong. Now I notice I never received the payment for that first week! Has this happened to anyone else? The certification apparently didn't register in the system even though I completed the process. Is there a way to get that missing payment, or is it just gone forever? Really can't afford to lose a week of benefits right now.

This happens sometimes with the mobile site - happened to me in January. You need to call NYSDOL and speak to a claims specialist who can backdate your certification. The system only allows you to certify for the previous week on your own, but they can manually enter older weeks. Don't worry, you won't lose the payment permanently as long as you were eligible that week.

•Really? Oh thank goodness. Do you know how long it took them to fix it for you? I've been stressing about this for days.

You can definitely get this fixed. The mobile certification can be glitchy - I always recommend using a computer if possible. Here's what you need to do: 1. Call the NYSDOL at 888-209-8124 2. Explain that your certification didn't process 3. Request a backdated certification for the specific week 4. Be prepared to answer questions about your eligibility that week They can process this retroactively, but you'll need to speak directly with a claims specialist. The payment will be included with your next regular payment after they fix it in the system.

•Thank you for the detailed steps! Do you know if there's a time limit for fixing this? It's been about 2 weeks now.

•You generally have 30 days to report issues with certifications, though they can make exceptions in some cases. Since you're well within that window, you should be fine. Just make sure to call and explain the situation clearly. Document the date/time of your call and get the representative's name if possible.

The same exact thing happened to me last month and I still haven't gotten that money. Been calling for weeks and can't get through to anyone who can help. The automated system just keeps transferring me around in circles until it eventually hangs up. So frustrating!!!

•After struggling with the same issue, I finally got through using Claimyr (claimyr.com). It's a service that basically holds your place in line and calls you when a rep is ready to talk. Saved me hours of frustration. They have a video showing how it works: https://youtu.be/Rdqa1gKtxuE Once I actually got a human on the phone, they fixed my missing certification in like 5 minutes. The rep said they can go back quite a ways to fix these issues as long as you were eligible during the week in question.

Don't get your hopes up. My friend's certification didn't go through and they NEVER paid him even though he called multiple times. The system is designed to deny benefits whenever possible!!

•That's not accurate. While there can certainly be frustrating delays, NYSDOL is legally required to pay all eligible weeks. If your friend was eligible and can prove they attempted to certify, they should continue to appeal. The system isn't perfect, but backdated certifications are processed routinely.

this happned to me too, i think it's when the phone loses connection for a split second during the submission. i just kept calling until i got someone and they fixed it, got paid the next day after they put it through

•That's encouraging! How many times did you have to call before getting through?

•I checked and don't see any messages, but good suggestion. The system definitely didn't register my certification because it let me certify for that week later (even though it was too late).

Just following up - were you able to get this resolved? For anyone else reading this thread in the future, I wanted to add that when you call about backdated certifications, specifically ask for a "docuphone certification." That's the term they use internally for manually entering a missed certification week.

•Yes! Finally got through yesterday after trying for 3 days. They were able to process my missing week as a "backdated certification" and said the payment should come through with my next regular payment. The rep confirmed the mobile site can sometimes fail to complete the submission even when it looks like it went through. Thanks everyone for the help and suggestions!
