PFL claim stuck on "Pending Process" for over a month - what to do?

Hey everyone, I'm getting worried about my PFL claim. I submitted it over a month ago for a claim starting in November, but I still haven't heard anything back. The online portal just shows "Pending Process". I got a text saying there might be delays due to the holidays, but it's been so long now. Has anyone else experienced this? Any advice on what I should do next?

I found a way to solve PFL claim processing delays, watch this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7Gnf7mDoIVg

Ugh, I feel your pain. I've been stuck in PFL limbo for weeks too. It's so frustrating when you're counting on that money and they just leave you hanging. Have you tried calling them? I heard sometimes that can speed things up.

I've tried calling but can never get through. It's like their phone lines are always jammed 😫

Pro tip: call right when they open. I managed to get through after trying that for a few days in a row. Good luck!

Oh man, that sucks. Maybe try emailing? I know it's not ideal but at least you might get some kind of response...

I had a similar issue last year. It took them almost 2 months to process my claim. The holidays definitely slow things down, but a month is still a long time. Have you checked if all your documentation was received correctly?

the system is so broken. i swear they make it difficult on purpose to discourage people from claiming benefits. hang in there OP, hopefully youll hear back soon

Preach! 🙌 It's like they're playing games with our livelihoods. Not cool at all.

I don't think it's on purpose, they're just understaffed and overwhelmed. But yeah, it still sucks for us waiting.

Here's what I've learned from my experience and research on PFL claims: 1. Processing times can vary widely, especially during holiday seasons. 2. "Pending Process" usually means they've received your claim but haven't started reviewing it yet. 3. Make sure all your documentation is in order. Any missing info can cause major delays. 4. Keep trying to call, even if it's frustrating. Early morning is often the best time. 5. If you have a disability coordinator at work, they might be able to help or provide insights. 6. Check if your employer submitted their portion of the claim on time. 7. Document all your attempts to contact them. 8. If it goes beyond 6-8 weeks, consider reaching out to your local representative for help. Hang in there, OP. The system is slow, but they'll get to your claim eventually.

Wow, thank you so much for this detailed response! This is really helpful. I'll definitely double-check all my documentation.

This is gold 💯 Saving this for future reference!

Have you tried contacting your HR department? Sometimes they can help push things along or at least give you more info about the process.

That's a good idea, I hadn't thought of that. I'll give them a call tomorrow. Thanks!

I found a way to actually get someone on the phone. I used this site's (claimyr.com) calling tool that dials the phone menu, stays on hold, waits for a live agent to pick up, then sends the call to my phone. It does cost $20, but it works. Here's a video about it: https://youtu.be/DOLxZQb92wM

Sounds too good to be true. Does it really work? 🤔

Yeah, it actually does! I was skeptical at first too, but I was desperate. Saved me hours of frustration.

20 bucks tho? Thats kinda steep just to talk to someone...

I get it, but for me, it was worth it. Time is money, and I was wasting so much time trying to get through on my own.

lol welcome to the wonderful world of government bureaucracy 🤡 where everything takes forever and nothing makes sense

Ain't that the truth 😂 It's like they're stuck in the stone age or smthn

Hey OP, just wanted to say don't lose hope. I know it's tough waiting, but your claim will get processed eventually. Sending good vibes your way! ❤️

I'm going through something similar right now - my PFL claim has been stuck for 3 weeks. What's really frustrating is that they don't give you any updates or timeline estimates. I've been checking the portal obsessively but it just stays on "Pending Process". From what I've read online, it seems like delays are pretty common, especially if they need to verify anything with your employer or if there are any discrepancies in the paperwork. Have you double-checked that your employer submitted their portion correctly? Sometimes that's where the holdup happens.

That's a really good point about the employer portion! I honestly hadn't thought to check on that specifically. I just assumed everything was submitted correctly, but you're right that could definitely be where things are getting stuck. Do you know how to verify if the employer submitted their part? I might need to follow up with HR about this. Thanks for bringing that up - it gives me something concrete to look into!

@Mei Wong You can usually check with your HR department to see if they submitted the employer portion correctly. Sometimes you can also call EDD directly and ask them to verify what documents they have on file for your claim. I learned this the hard way when my claim was delayed because my employer forgot to submit some required forms. It s'definitely worth double-checking!

I'm so sorry you're dealing with this - the waiting is absolutely the worst part! I went through something similar last year where my claim was stuck for about 6 weeks. What finally helped was calling first thing in the morning (like 8 AM sharp) multiple days in a row until I got through. When I finally spoke to someone, they told me there was actually a small issue with one of my forms that they never notified me about. Once we fixed it, my claim was processed within a week. I'd definitely recommend being persistent with the phone calls and also maybe checking with your HR to make sure they submitted everything correctly on their end. Hang in there - I know it's stressful but you'll get through this! 💪

Thank you so much for sharing your experience! It's really encouraging to hear that you eventually got it resolved. The part about them not notifying you about the form issue is exactly what I'm worried about - like what if there's something wrong and I just don't know? I'm definitely going to try the 8 AM calling strategy starting tomorrow. Did you have to call the main EDD number or is there a specific PFL line? Also really appreciate the reminder to check with HR - seems like that's a common theme in these responses so I'm definitely going to follow up with them first thing Monday morning.

I'm dealing with the exact same situation right now - my PFL claim has been stuck on "Pending Process" for about 5 weeks now. It's so nerve-wracking when you're relying on that income and just get radio silence from them. From reading through all these responses, it sounds like the key things to check are: 1) calling early morning repeatedly until you get through, 2) verifying with HR that your employer submitted their portion correctly, and 3) double-checking that all your documentation was complete. I'm going to start making those 8 AM calls tomorrow and also reach out to my HR department. Thanks everyone for all the helpful advice - it's reassuring to know I'm not alone in this frustrating process!

It's such a relief to see I'm not the only one going through this nightmare! 5 weeks is way too long - I can't imagine the stress you must be feeling. I'm definitely going to try that 8 AM calling strategy too, seems like multiple people have had success with that approach. Really hoping we both get some answers soon. Keep us posted on how it goes with your HR department and the phone calls! 🤞

I'm in a similar boat - submitted my PFL claim about 6 weeks ago and it's been stuck on "Pending Process" this whole time. The lack of communication is honestly the most frustrating part. I've tried calling multiple times but can never get through. Reading through everyone's experiences here, it sounds like the early morning calling strategy is really the way to go. I'm also going to check with my HR department like others suggested - didn't even think about potential issues on the employer side. @Jacinda Yu have you had any luck reaching out to your HR yet? It might be worth trying before doing the paid calling service thing. The waiting game is brutal but at least we're not alone in this mess!
