PFL Claim Status Check - How Long is the Wait These Days?

Hey everyone, I submitted my PFL claim about a month ago and I'm getting anxious about it. Has anyone checked on their claim status recently? How long did it take for you to hear back? I'm wondering if I should call them or just keep waiting.

I feel ya, the waiting game is the worst! I submitted mine about 6 weeks ago and just got an update yesterday. Hang in there, it seems like they're taking longer than usual these days.

6 weeks?! That's ridiculous. What are we supposed to do in the meantime, just not pay our bills? šŸ™„

Seriously! I'm in the same boat. Been waiting for over a month now and radio silence. This system is so broken.

I know, it's frustrating af. I ended up having to borrow money from family to get by. Not ideal, but what can you do? šŸ¤·ā€ā™‚ļø

Pro tip: don't just sit around waiting. Call them! I waited for weeks and then finally decided to call. Turns out they were missing a document and never notified me. After I sent it in, things moved much faster.

This! šŸ‘† Always better to be proactive. The squeaky wheel gets the grease, as they say.

Thanks for the advice! Did you have trouble getting through on the phone? I've heard horror stories about being on hold forever.

Oh yeah, it can be a nightmare. But I found this site called claimyr.com that dials for you and waits on hold. When an agent picks up, it calls you. Costs $20 but saved me hours of frustration. Here's a video about it: https://youtu.be/DOLxZQb92wM

Wait, you have to PAY to talk to someone about your claim? That's messed up. 😤

I get it, but for me it was worth it. Time is money, and I couldn't afford to sit on hold all day. Plus, it actually got me through to someone who could help.

Here's what I've learned from my experience and research about PFL claims: • Processing time is currently 2-4 weeks on average, but can take up to 6-8 weeks during busy periods • Make sure ALL required documents are submitted. Missing info is the #1 reason for delays • Double-check that your employer submitted their portion of the claim • If it's been over 4 weeks, definitely call to check status • Keep copies of everything you submit • If you're having financial hardship due to the delay, mention this when you call. Sometimes they can expedite Hope this helps! Hang in there, OP!

Quick question - do you know if theres a way to check the status online? Or do we HAVE to call?

Unfortunately, there's no reliable online status check for PFL claims. You gotta call or wait for snail mail. It's 2023, you'd think they'd have a better system by now! šŸ¤¦ā€ā™‚ļø

Has anyone else noticed that they seem to be slower processing claims filed in certain months? I swear I've seen a pattern but idk if it's just coincidence.

Now that you mention it, I've heard January and July can be slower because of the new year and fiscal year stuff. But that's just hearsay, don't quote me on it!

Interesting theory. I filed in February and it took forever. Maybe there's a backlog from January? šŸ¤”

Unpopular opinion: maybe we should all just be gratefull that PFL exists at all? A lot of states don't even have it. Yeah the wait sucks but at least were getting something

Nah, they have a point. It's frustrating but better than nothing. We can appreciate the benefit while still pushing for improvements.

Anyone else feel like they're playing phone tag with the PFL office? I swear, every time I call I get a different answer. It's like they're making it up as they go along!

OMG yes! I thought it was just me. Last week one person told me my claim was approved, called back the next day and they said it was still pending. Make up your minds, people! 🤯

Hey OP, what kind of PFL are you on? I'm on bonding leave with my newborn and wondering if different types of leave get processed differently.

0 coins

I'm actually on caregiving leave for my mom. Not sure if that makes a difference in processing time. Anyone know?

0 coins

From what I've heard, they're all supposed to be processed the same way. But who knows with this system, right? šŸ¤·ā€ā™€ļø

Pro tip: if you're having trouble getting through on the phone, try calling right when they open or about an hour before they close. I've had better luck with shorter hold times then.

Does anyone know if contacting our local representatives can help speed things up? I'm getting desperate here.

It can't hurt! I've heard some success stories. Just be prepared to do some follow-up. They won't magically fix everything but might be able to light a fire under someone.

I'm in a similar situation - submitted my PFL claim 5 weeks ago and still nothing. The uncertainty is killing me! I tried calling last week but was on hold for 2 hours before giving up. Really appreciate everyone sharing their experiences here. @Grace Johnson, have you tried calling yet or are you still waiting it out? I'm debating whether to keep trying to get through or just wait a bit longer.
