ESD says 'paid' but money not in bank account yet - normal wait time?

My unemployment claim finally got updated to 'paid' status yesterday morning (after weeks in adjudication hell!), but I'm still waiting for the money to actually hit my bank account. This is my first time getting UI benefits, so I'm not sure if this delay is normal or if something's wrong. My ESD account definitely shows 'paid' with the payment date as yesterday. How long does it typically take between the ESD system showing 'paid' and the money actually appearing in your bank account? I'm starting to get anxious because rent is due soon.

Normal processing time is 24-48 business hours after it shows 'paid' in the system. If you have direct deposit set up correctly, you should see it by tomorrow. If you're using the ESD debit card option, it can sometimes take 3 business days. The payment date shown in your ESD account is when they processed it, not necessarily when it hits your account. Banks also have different processing times for incoming ACH transfers.

Thanks for the quick reply! I do have direct deposit set up. Good to know the 24-48 hour timeframe is normal. I'll try to be patient until tomorrow before panicking.

That's reassuring to hear. Today is Tuesday so hopefully I'll see something by Thursday at the latest. Fingers crossed!

TYPICAL ESD NONSENSE!!! Been dealing with them for 8 months now and every payment is a whole ordeal. They mark it "paid" but then the money takes FOREVER to show up. I've had it take up to 5 days before! And if you try calling to ask about it? GOOD LUCK getting through their phone system. It's designed to make you give up!!!

While delays can be frustrating, 2-3 business days for ACH transfers is actually standard banking practice, not an ESD issue specifically. Most financial institutions have similar processing times for these types of transfers.

Maybe so but their entire system is still a disaster. Try getting any answers from a real person when something goes wrong! Impossible!!

I've been going through the same thing with my payments. What helped me was using Claimyr to actually get through to an ESD agent when I had questions about my payment schedule. Only way I could get real answers about the timing. Their website at claimyr.com shows exactly how it works and they have a video demo (https://youtu.be/7DieNd3C7zQ?si=26TzE_zGms-DODN3) that explains the process. Was worth it for me because I was dealing with some weird payment timing issues that nobody on forums could explain.

I'll check that out if my payment doesn't show up by Thursday. Right now I'm hoping it's just normal processing time, but good to know there's an option if I need to talk to someone directly.

yoo when i first got on unemployment i was so confused about this too! thought i did something wrong with my banking info lol. took like 2-3 days for money to show up after the paid status. don't stress

To clarify some confusion in this thread: ESD processes payments in batches. The 'paid' status means your payment has been included in that day's batch for processing through the ACH network. Most payments will appear in your account within 24-48 business hours depending on your bank's processing schedule. Some banks post pending ACH transfers immediately, while others don't show them until fully cleared. If you don't receive payment within 3 business days of the 'paid' status, you should contact ESD to verify your banking information is correct in their system. Also worth noting that first-time payments sometimes take slightly longer than subsequent ones.

This is super helpful, thank you! I didn't realize first payments might take longer. I'll definitely wait the full 3 business days before getting too concerned.

is there a way to check if banking info is right without calling? i can never get thru on phone

Yes, you can verify your banking information by logging into your eServices account, selecting 'Update Profile,' and then 'Payment Options.' You'll be able to see the last 4 digits of your account number to confirm it's correct. You can't see the full account number for security reasons.

i remember my bank used to take FOREVER to process UI payments and then one day randomly started showing them pending like immediately after they were issued. I think my credit union was just slow about it in the beginning for some reason. Also depends what time of day ESD issues it. If it's after like 2pm a lot of banks won't process it till next business day. Hang in there!!

UPDATE: Money just hit my account this morning! So that was about 48 hours from when the ESD site showed 'paid' until it appeared in my bank. Thanks everyone for the reassurance and info, really helped calm my anxiety while waiting.

Great news! And now you know what to expect for future payments. Glad it worked out.
