ESD payment shows 'paid' on Saturday - when will money hit my bank account?

My weekly claim was processed yesterday (Saturday) and my ESD account is showing the payment status as 'paid' - but nothing in my bank account yet. This is my first time getting benefits after 6 weeks of waiting through adjudication hell! For anyone who regularly gets UI deposits, if ESD shows paid on a Saturday, does the money typically show up Monday? Or Tuesday? I'm down to $37 in my account and need to pay rent by Wednesday, so I'm getting nervous about timing. My payment is supposed to be $832 after taxes.

It should be in your account on Monday morning. ESD processes payments on their end over the weekend, but banks don't process deposits until the next business day. I've been on UI for 3 months and mine always shows up Monday when it says 'paid' on Saturday. However, depending on your bank, it could sometimes take until Tuesday. Chase and most major banks usually post it Monday morning.

Thank you!! That's a relief to hear. I'm with BECU so hopefully they're quick with it.

I had the EXACT same thing happen to me last month. ESD showed paid on Saturday but money didn't arrive until Tuesday morning. I have KeyBank. I nearly had a panic attack because I needed to pay my car payment. If you're worried, you might want to call your landlord and explain the situation - most will give you a day or two grace period if you communicate ahead of time.

Good idea about calling my landlord. She's been pretty understanding so far, but I hate asking for another extension after already being late last month. Fingers crossed it comes Monday!

The timing depends on both ESD and your bank's processing systems. Here's how it typically works: 1. ESD marks claims as "paid" when they've processed the payment on their end 2. The ACH transfer is then initiated to your bank 3. Banks typically process these transfers on business days only So if it shows paid on Saturday, the money should appear in your account on Monday or Tuesday at the latest. If you don't see it by Wednesday morning, then there might be an issue worth investigating. One thing to note: if this is your very first payment, it sometimes takes an extra day because the bank connection is being established for the first time.

My money alwaus shows up on wensday even when it says paid on friday!! THE ESD SYSTEM IS BROKEN the website says one thing but they do another thing its all about tricking us so we dont complain to much

That's not accurate. ESD doesn't control when your bank processes the deposit. The payment status just means ESD has sent the payment instruction to the banking system. Different banks have different processing times.

I've been trying to call ESD for a week about a similar issue with my payment timing and can't get through at all. Has anyone had any luck getting an actual person on the phone lately? The automated system just keeps disconnecting me after 30+ minutes on hold.

Try using Claimyr (claimyr.com) - it got me through to an ESD agent in about 20 minutes last week when I had questions about my adjudication. They have this system that keeps redialing ESD until they get through, then they call you when they have an agent. You can see how it works in their video here: https://youtu.be/7DieNd3C7zQ?si=26TzE_zGms-DODN3. Totally worth it when you're desperate to talk to someone.

Last month my payment said "paid" on a Saturday but didn't hit my account until Wednesday! I have a credit union though and they're always super slow with everything. I freaked out and called ESD (took forever to get through) and they just said it was sent and to be patient. So annoying. I switched to direct deposit after that because my payment card was even slower.

Wednesday would be cutting it way too close for me. I'm already on direct deposit, and I've heard BECU is usually pretty quick with government deposits. Hoping that's true!

Just to follow up on this thread - did your payment arrive on Monday as expected? It helps others to know what the typical timing is like in 2025, as ESD sometimes changes their processing schedules.

Yes! The money hit my account at 6:32am Monday morning. Such a relief! Thanks everyone for your help!

Great to hear it worked out! This is really helpful info for others in similar situations. BECU does seem to be pretty reliable with government deposits - I've had good experiences with them too. It's always nerve-wracking when you're counting on that money for bills, but at least now you know the typical timeline for future payments. Glad you made it through the adjudication process and are finally getting your benefits!

This whole thread is super helpful! I'm new to UI benefits and had no idea about the timing differences between banks. Good to know BECU is reliable - I might switch from my current bank if I run into deposit delays. The adjudication wait sounds brutal, glad you finally got through it @Camila Castillo!

Just wanted to add my experience for anyone else who might be wondering about timing - I've been getting UI benefits for about 8 months now and the pattern is pretty consistent. When ESD shows "paid" on Saturday, the money hits my account (Wells Fargo) on Monday around 3-4am. When it shows "paid" on Friday, it usually arrives the same Monday. The only time I've had delays was during a federal holiday when banks were closed an extra day. One tip: if you're stressed about timing like the OP was, you can usually see pending deposits in your online banking on Sunday evening, even though they won't officially post until Monday morning. That at least gives you peace of mind that it's coming!

That's really useful info about being able to see pending deposits on Sunday! I wish I had known that earlier this week - would have saved me a lot of anxiety. The federal holiday delay is something I hadn't thought about either. Thanks for sharing your experience over 8 months, it's reassuring to hear there's a consistent pattern once you know what to expect.
