ESD payment shows 'paid' status but nothing in my bank account yet - typical deposit timeline?
Just checked my ESD account and my claim finally got approved today after 5 weeks in adjudication! The status shows 'paid' but nothing has hit my bank account yet. This is my first time on unemployment and I'm getting anxious about bills. For those who've been through this before - how long does it typically take for the money to actually show up in your account once ESD marks it as paid? I set up direct deposit during my initial application. Should I be worried if it doesn't arrive by tomorrow? Thanks in advance!

Congrats on getting approved! For direct deposit, it typically takes 24-48 business hours for the funds to hit your account after ESD shows 'paid' status. So if it shows paid today, you should see it in your account by the day after tomorrow at the latest. Banks process deposits differently - some make funds available immediately while others might hold it until the next business day. Just make sure your bank account info is correct in your ESD profile. If you don't see anything after 3 business days, then you should contact ESD.

•Thank you! That's a relief to hear. My bills are due on Friday so sounds like it should arrive just in time. I double-checked my account info and everything looks correct.

•Same! Mine usually comes in 24 hours but I bank with BECU. My friend uses Wells Fargo and it always takes her 2-3 days longer than me. So frustrating how different banks handle it!

Don't count on it coming when they say!!! My status said PAID for a whole WEEK and nothing came through. I called and called and couldn't get anyone. Said the wait time was 5+ hours. When I finally got through, they said there was a "payment hold" for "identity verification" that wasn't showing on my account!!! Had to send in ANOTHER copy of my ID and wait ANOTHER week. The whole system is designed to make you give up!!!

•While payment holds do happen occasionally, what you experienced isn't typical. Most direct deposits process within 1-3 business days after showing 'paid' status. If anyone encounters unusual delays, I recommend using the secure message feature in your eServices account first. For urgent matters where you need to speak with an agent directly, there are services like Claimyr (claimyr.com) that can help you get through the phone system more quickly. They have a video demo showing how it works: https://youtu.be/7DieNd3C7zQ?si=26TzE_zGms-DODN3

Just wanted to mention - make sure you check that your bank account number is entered correctly in your ESD profile. I made a typo in mine (put one digit wrong) and spent three weeks wondering where my money was! The system showed "paid" but the money was in limbo. Had to get ESD to cancel the original payment and reissue it once I fixed my banking info. Definitely double-check those details!

my payments always come the next day after it says paid but occasionally theyve taken 2 days. one time a payment got stuck for some reason and i had to call them. make sure u keep filing ur weekly claims on time even if this payment is still processing!

•Thanks for the reminder about continuing weekly claims! With all the stress about this payment I almost forgot my next weekly claim is due Sunday.

Just a quick follow-up question - is this your first payment? If so, it might include several weeks of back payments if you've been filing weekly claims while waiting for approval. The first payment often takes slightly longer to process through the banking system due to the larger amount. Also, if you're expecting a substantial sum, be aware that some banks place holds on unusually large deposits until they clear.

•Yes, this is my first payment! It should include 5 weeks of benefits since I've been filing weekly while in adjudication. That's really helpful to know about potential holds on larger deposits - I'll check with my bank about their policy. Thank you!

•Yes! The payment hit my account this morning - so it took about 36 hours from when the status changed to 'paid'. Thanks everyone for the help and reassurance!

•That's awesome news! 36 hours is pretty typical for first payments. Glad you got it sorted out and can pay those bills on Friday. Hope your unemployment journey goes smoothly from here on out!

Great to hear your payment came through! For future reference, you can also check the "Payment History" section in your eServices account - it shows not just the payment status but also the actual date funds were sent to your bank. This can help you track timing patterns for future payments. Most ongoing weekly payments process much faster than that first lump sum, usually within 24 hours. Best of luck with everything!

•Thanks for that tip about checking Payment History! I didn't know about that feature. Good to know future payments should be faster too - the waiting and uncertainty was definitely the hardest part of this whole process.

Congrats on getting your first payment! I remember that anxious feeling waiting for my first deposit. One thing I learned is to screenshot or save your payment confirmation from ESD showing the "paid" status and date - it's helpful if you ever need to provide proof to your bank or if there are any issues down the road. Also, once you start receiving regular weekly payments, they usually come on the same day each week, so you'll be able to plan better for bill payments. The uncertainty definitely gets easier after the first few payments!

•That's really smart advice about screenshotting the payment confirmations! I wish I had thought of that earlier. The uncertainty definitely was the worst part - constantly refreshing my bank app and wondering if something went wrong. It's reassuring to know the timing becomes more predictable with regular weekly payments. Thanks for sharing your experience!

So glad to see your payment came through! As someone who went through a similar 5-week adjudication wait last year, I totally understand that anxiety about bills piling up. One thing I'd add for anyone else reading this - if you're still waiting for approval, consider reaching out to your utility companies and creditors to explain the situation. Many have hardship programs or will work with you on payment plans while you're waiting for unemployment benefits. I was surprised how understanding most companies were when I explained I was waiting for ESD approval. Also, keep all your documentation from this process - sometimes there are delays or issues with future payments and having records of when things were approved and paid really helps when you need to contact ESD later.

•This is excellent advice! I wish I had known about reaching out to creditors during my wait. I was so stressed about my electric bill getting shut off. For anyone else going through this - also check if your local food banks or community assistance programs can help with groceries while waiting. Every little bit helps when you're in that limbo period between jobs and benefits. The documentation tip is spot on too - I've already started keeping a folder with all my ESD screenshots and emails just in case.

As someone who just went through this exact same process a few months ago, I can relate to that anxiety! The good news is that once you get through this first payment, the system becomes much more predictable. A few things that helped me during my unemployment period: 1) Set up text/email alerts with your bank so you know immediately when deposits hit, 2) Keep a simple spreadsheet tracking your weekly claim dates and payment statuses - it helps you spot any irregularities quickly, and 3) If you haven't already, familiarize yourself with the ESD holiday schedule since payments can be delayed during federal holidays. Also, don't hesitate to use the secure messaging system in eServices if you have questions - I found the responses were usually pretty helpful and much faster than trying to call. Wishing you all the best as you navigate this process!
