ESD payment shows PAID but still not in my bank account - typical deposit timeframe?
I just got my unemployment claim approved yesterday (finally!) and when I checked my ESD account this morning it shows my benefits as PAID, but there's nothing in my checking account yet. This is my first time ever filing for unemployment after being laid off from construction work, and I'm a bit confused about the timing. Does anyone know how long it typically takes for the money to actually hit your bank account after it shows as PAID in the ESD system? I selected direct deposit during my application. Just trying to figure out if I should be worried or if this is normal.

•Thanks! That's a relief to hear. I bank with BECU so hopefully it'll be there soon.

I've been on UI for 3 months now and it ALWAYS takes 2 full business days for my payment to hit my account after showing PAID. ESD processes payments in batches and then there's the bank processing time on top of that. Don't count weekends either! If it showed paid on Friday you might not see it till Tuesday or Wednesday. The system is SO SLOW it's ridiculous!!

•Ugh, that's frustrating but good to know. I was hoping it would be faster since bills are coming due soon.

Are you SURE you entered your correct banking information? I had a problem where I accidentally put one digit wrong in my account number and the payment bounced back to ESD. It took over 3 weeks to resolve and get my money! Double-check your banking info in your eServices account right away!

•Oh geez, I didn't even think of that possibility. I'm pretty sure I entered it correctly but I'm going to double-check right now. Thanks for the warning!

The standard timeframe is 24-72 business hours after it shows as PAID in the ESD system. This varies based on: 1. Your bank's processing times 2. What time of day the payment was processed 3. Whether weekends/holidays are involved If it just showed PAID yesterday, I wouldn't worry until at least 3 business days have passed. Most banks process ACH transfers overnight, but some smaller institutions take longer. If it doesn't arrive by the end of the week, then call ESD to verify the payment details.

•This is super helpful, thank you. I'll wait the 3 business days before panicking then. Appreciate the detailed explanation!

When my claim first got approved last year, the first payment took like 4 days to hit my account but after that it was always 2 days like clockwork. I think the first one sometimes takes longer for some reason? Congrats on getting approved btw, I know the waiting game is THE WORST. At least now you know the money is coming!

•That's good context, thanks! And yeah, the waiting has been stressful. Definitely relieved to see movement on my claim finally.

If you're still not seeing your payment after 3 business days, you should contact ESD directly. However, getting through to them can be nearly impossible with the constant busy signals and disconnections. I spent 2 weeks trying to reach someone about a similar issue. I eventually used Claimyr (claimyr.com) to get a callback from an ESD agent within a couple hours. They have a video showing how it works here: https://youtu.be/7DieNd3C7zQ?si=26TzE_zGms-DODN3 The agent was able to verify exactly when my payment was sent and confirm all my banking info was correct. Saved me a ton of stress wondering if something had gone wrong with my payment.

•I'll definitely keep that option in mind if I can't get this resolved soon. Haven't tried calling ESD yet but I've heard horror stories about the wait times.

sometimes it depends on what time they process it too. if it gets processed after the cutoff time for your banks ach transfers, you gotta wait an extra day. and like others said, weekends dont count. my credit union posts them around 6am on whatever day it finally processes. u can also check if your bank shows pending deposits, mine does a day before they post

•That's a good idea, I'll check if there are any pending deposits showing up. I didn't think to look for that.

ALSO make sure you keep filing your weekly claims ON TIME even while waiting for this payment to hit your account!!! I messed up once and filed a day late and it delayed EVERYTHING and I had to call and get it fixed. The ESD system is so unforgiving with deadlines!

•Thanks for the reminder! I've got a reminder set on my phone for Sunday morning to file my weekly claim. Definitely don't want to mess that up.

Just as an update for anyone reading this thread in the future: The standard processing time has remained consistent throughout 2025. ESD typically releases payments within 24 hours of showing PAID status, then bank processing adds 1-2 business days for most financial institutions. First payments may take slightly longer due to additional verification processes. If you're concerned about your banking information being correct, you can verify it in your eServices account under the "Payment Options" section.

•this is rly helpful! i kept wondering why my first payment took longer than the rest. makes sense that they double check everything the first time

UPDATE: My payment just hit my account this morning! So it took exactly 2 business days from when it showed PAID in the ESD system. Thanks everyone for the help and reassurance. For anyone else wondering about timing, seems like 2-3 business days is pretty standard based on all your experiences.
