ESD finally shows PAID - how long until it hits my bank account?
Finally got some good news after 6 weeks of waiting! Checked my ESD account this morning and everything shows 'PAID' status (thank goodness). Now I'm anxiously wondering how long it takes for the money to actually show up in my bank account? This is my first time on unemployment and I've got bills due on Monday. Does the deposit hit same day as the PAID status, or is there another waiting period? Anyone with recent experience on this?

Congrats on getting approved! The funds typically hit your account within 1-2 business days after the status changes to PAID. If you have direct deposit set up, it could be as soon as tomorrow morning. Weekend deposits usually don't process until Monday morning though. If it was marked paid today (Friday), you should see it Monday or Tuesday at the latest.

•Thank you! That's a relief to hear. I do have direct deposit set up. Fingers crossed it lands by Monday - my landlord isn't exactly the patient type.

•Same! Always 3 days for me too. Must depend on your bank maybe?

The ESD system is inconsistent with payment timelines, and there's really no way to get a straight answer from them on when exactly funds will transfer. I've been dealing with unemployment on and off for the past year, and I've seen it vary between same-day deposits (rare) to 4 business days (more common). Banks like Chase and Wells Fargo seem to take longer to process ESD payments compared to credit unions in my experience. If you're really worried about timing, try Claimyr.com to get through to an actual ESD agent who can see exactly when your payment was initiated and give you more precise timing. I used their service last month when my payment was delayed, and they got me through to someone in about 20 minutes. They have a video demo at https://youtu.be/7DieNd3C7zQ?si=26TzE_zGms-DODN3 if you want to see how it works. Saved me days of stress wondering where my money was.

•Are you kidding me?? Why should anyone have to PAY to talk to ESD when they already don't have money?? This system is SO BROKEN!! I waited 9 weeks for my claim and had to call 56 TIMES before getting through. The whole unemployment system needs to be completely rebuilt from scratch!!!

The official answer from ESD is that payment processing takes 24-48 hours after the 'paid' status appears on your account, but it can vary based on several factors: 1. If you have direct deposit, payments typically process in 1-2 business days 2. If you're using the ReliaCard debit card option, it may take 2-3 business days 3. Weekend and holiday processing delays can add extra time 4. First payments sometimes take slightly longer than subsequent payments One important thing to note: if this is your first payment, there's sometimes a "test deposit" verification that can add an extra day. For future weekly claims, the timing should become more consistent once you're in the system. Make sure you continue filing your weekly claims on time even while waiting for this payment to process.

•This is super helpful, thank you! It is my first payment, so I should probably expect the longer end of that timeline. I've got direct deposit set up, so hopefully that'll speed things up a bit.

when i was on ui last year sometimes it came next day and sometimes took like 3-4 days... totally random tbh kinda annoying when ur trying to plan ur bills

•That's the frustrating part - the inconsistency makes it nearly impossible to plan. I've had payments show up at 6am and others not arrive until after 5pm, even from the same claim period.

Update: For anyone who finds this thread later - my payment hit my account this morning (Monday)! So for me it was 3 days from PAID status to actual deposit (Friday to Monday). Thanks everyone for the help and info!

•Awesome! Glad it came through in time. For future reference, your payments should follow a similar pattern now that you're in the system.

When I was on standby status last month my payments would show as paid on Tuesday but didn't hit my bank accoutn until Thursday every week. But my cousin who banks with BECU got his next day! Think it depends on your bank too.

•That's good to know! I'm with WSECU, so maybe that's why mine came through relatively quickly.

Credit unions definitely seem to process ESD payments faster than big banks! I've been with a local credit union for years and consistently get my UI deposits within 24-48 hours of the PAID status. My coworker who banks with Bank of America always has to wait 3-4 days for the same payments. If you're planning to be on unemployment for a while, might be worth considering switching to a credit union - they usually have better customer service too and don't charge as many fees.
