ESD approved claim payment delay - when will it hit my bank account?
Finally got some good news after waiting 8 weeks in limbo! My unemployment claim was approved yesterday and this morning eServices shows I've been 'paid' for all those waiting weeks. Problem is, I checked my bank account and nothing's there yet. Getting a bit anxious because I've got bills due this weekend. For those who've been through this before - how long does it typically take for the money to actually appear in your bank account after ESD says it's been paid? Is it usually same-day or should I expect to wait another few days?

Congrats on getting approved! It typically takes 24-48 business hours for payments to appear in your account after ESD marks them as paid. When I was on UI last year, my payments would usually show up the next business day. It also depends on your bank - some process ACH transfers faster than others. If you don't see it by Monday, then I'd start wondering if something's wrong.

•Thanks, that's reassuring! My bank usually processes direct deposits pretty quickly so hopefully I'll see it tomorrow. Just nervous because it's a pretty substantial amount after waiting 2 months.

DEPENDS ON IF YOU HAVE DIRECT DEPOSIT OR THE DEBIT CARD!!! If you chose direct deposit it can take 2-3 business days. If you're getting it on the ReliaCard it could be there right away but sometimes takes until the next day. The ESD system is SO SLOW at processing everything!! Did they make you wait all 8 weeks with no communication?? That's what they did to me and I was literally almost evicted because of their incompetence!

•they gave me the debit card without asking and it took like a week to arrive in the mail, such a hassle

•I set up direct deposit when I first applied. And yeah, complete radio silence for almost 2 months! I called so many times but could never get through to an actual person. Just automated messages saying high call volume.

If you're having trouble reaching ESD to check on your payment status, I'd recommend trying Claimyr (claimyr.com). I was in a similar situation last month where my payment was marked as paid but didn't show up for several days. I couldn't get through to ESD on my own after dozens of attempts, but Claimyr got me connected to an ESD agent in about 25 minutes. They have a video showing how it works: https://youtu.be/7DieNd3C7zQ?si=26TzE_zGms-DODN3. The agent explained that there was a flag on my account that needed to be removed before the payment could process completely.

•I've never heard of this service! I'll check it out if my payment doesn't show up by Monday. Did the agent actually help resolve your issue when you got through?

•Yes, they fixed it while I was on the phone. The agent removed the flag and my payment showed up the next morning. Worth it for the peace of mind alone.

Payment processing depends on several factors: 1) When the payment was authorized (cutoff times matter) 2) Your bank's processing schedule 3) Whether it's a weekend/holiday 4) If there are any holds on your claim In most cases, if ESD shows "paid" status in the morning, you'll see the deposit within 24-48 hours. However, if the payment was authorized on Friday, you may not see it until Monday or Tuesday due to weekend processing limitations. I've worked with the unemployment system extensively, and this timeline is fairly consistent. One important note: The first payment often takes slightly longer than subsequent payments due to additional verification processes. After this initial payment, future weekly claims typically follow a more predictable schedule.

•This is super helpful, thank you! It changed to 'paid' status early Friday morning, so based on what you're saying, I should probably expect to see it Monday or Tuesday. That makes me feel better about planning for my bills.

my claim was stuck for 12 weeks and then suddenly got approved last month. the website said paid on tuesday but the money didn't show up until thursday morning. i think it depends on your bank too. im with BECU and they're usually pretty fast with deposits but ESD is just slow with everything lol. just be glad you got approved!! so many people are getting denied these days

•12 weeks?! That's awful. I was going crazy at 8 weeks. Definitely grateful to be approved, just anxious to see the actual money after waiting so long.

•Oh no, I didn't even think of that! Just double-checked and my current account info is listed correctly. Thank goodness. That would've been a nightmare.

Just wanted to add - make sure you keep filing your weekly claims even while waiting for this first payment to hit your account. Some people think they can skip a week after approval but that will mess up your claim and potentially cause payment delays. The system needs those continuous weekly claims to process correctly.

•Thanks for the reminder! I already filed this week's claim on Sunday. Definitely not missing any after all the trouble I went through to get approved!

Has anyone else noticed the payments come faster if you do direct deposit vs the ReliaCard? I swear when I switched to direct deposit my payments started coming a whole day earlier!

•This is actually accurate. Direct deposit typically processes 12-24 hours faster than ReliaCard transfers because there's one less financial institution involved in the transaction. ESD sends the payment to your bank directly rather than routing it through U.S. Bank (ReliaCard's issuer) first.

UPDATE: The money just hit my account this morning (Monday)! So it took about 3 business days from when the claim showed 'paid' on the ESD website to when it actually appeared in my bank account. Thanks everyone for the help and reassurance!

•Great news! Now you know what to expect for future payments. They should follow a similar schedule going forward.
