ESD shows claims as paid but nothing in my bank account after 2 days - normal?

Super confused right now. After waiting in adjudication since February, my unemployment benefits FINALLY got approved on April 5th (yay!). When I check my weekly claims in eServices, they all show status as 'paid' - but there's literally nothing in my bank account? I've been checking obsessively all day. I thought ESD payments usually hit accounts by Wednesday morning at the latest, and it's already Thursday afternoon. Is this normal or should I be worried? Does it sometimes take longer for the first payment after approval, especially with backpay involved? I'm getting really anxious because I've got rent due next week and was counting on this money coming through.

Thanks! I'll try to be patient. It's just hard when I've already waited two months through adjudication and now this final step is dragging out too.

This happened to me last year. The eServices system shows payments as 'paid' when ESD has processed them on THEIR end, but then it still takes 2-3 business days for the funds to actually hit your bank account depending on your bank's processing times. If you set up direct deposit when you filed your initial claim, the money should show up soon. Double-check that your banking info is correct in your profile. First payments with backpay sometimes take a bit longer to process through the banking system too because the amount is larger than normal.

That makes sense - I did set up direct deposit but forgot about the bank processing time on top of ESD's processing. Checked my banking info and it's all correct. Thanks for the reassurance!

DID YOU VERIFY YOUR IDENTITY??? This is a HUGE issue and happened to me. My claims showed paid but no money came because ESD flagged my account for identity verification but NEVER TOLD ME!!! I waited 2 weeks before calling and they said I needed to do the ID.me process!! Call them RIGHT AWAY!!! Don't wait like I did!!!

Oh no, that sounds stressful! I did complete ID.me when I first applied, and my claim was in adjudication for a specific issue (they needed to verify my job separation reason). But I'll definitely call if nothing shows up by Monday just to make sure.

If your claims are showing as 'paid' status in eServices, that's definitely a good sign. The timing can vary based on a few factors: 1. When exactly it was marked 'paid' (what time of day) 2. Your bank's processing times (some banks hold ACH transfers longer than others) 3. Whether it's your first payment (these sometimes take an extra day) 4. The total amount (larger backpay amounts might trigger additional verification) Generally, I'd give it until Friday afternoon before getting too concerned. If nothing posts by Monday, you should definitely contact ESD to verify there aren't any issues with your payment method or banking information. Make sure to check both your ESD settings AND with your bank to ensure there aren't any holds on incoming transfers.

This is super helpful - thank you! I hadn't considered the size of the backpay potentially causing delays. I'll definitely wait until Monday before panicking.

That's really good to know! My bank usually shows pending deposits, but maybe not for government payments? I'll keep checking.

Have you tried calling ESD to check on the status? It took me FOREVER to get through to someone when I had payment issues last month, but I finally used Claimyr (claimyr.com) and got connected to an ESD agent in about 20 minutes instead of spending days trying to get through. They have a video showing how it works: https://youtu.be/7DieNd3C7zQ?si=26TzE_zGms-DODN3. The agent was able to tell me exactly when my payment was sent and why it was delayed. Worth it when you're stressing about money that should be there!

Is this service legit? I've never heard of it before and I'm always wary of third-party services connected to unemployment benefits.

Update us when your payment arrives! It helps others gauge timing expectations. Different banks seem to process ESD direct deposits at different speeds.

Good news! The money just hit my account this morning (Friday). So it took exactly 3 business days from when the status changed to 'paid' in the ESD system. Thanks everyone for the help and reassurance!
