ESD finally approved my claim after 12 weeks - when will direct deposit hit my account?

After 12 excruciating weeks of waiting and practically living on hold with ESD, I FINALLY got my approval letter yesterday! Checked my account this morning and all my weekly claims now show 'PAID' status (thank god). My question is - how long until the money actually shows up in my bank account? I've got bills piling up and need to know if I should expect it tomorrow or if it takes several more days? I set up direct deposit when I first applied back in January. Anyone know the typical timeframe for funds to appear after the status changes to PAID?

Thanks! That's such a relief to hear it's pretty quick. Friday would be perfect.

The standard timeframe is 24-48 hours for direct deposit after your claim shows PAID in the system. However, this can depend on your bank. Some larger banks process ACH transfers same-day, while smaller credit unions might take the full 48 hours or even up to 72 hours in rare cases. If you don't see it by the third business day, you should contact ESD as there might be an issue with your direct deposit information.

Got it, I'll give it 3 business days before I panic. My bank is usually pretty quick with deposits so hopefully I'll see it tomorrow!

12 WEEKS?!! Omg I'm only at 5 weeks waiting and already losing my mind. Did they backpay you for all those weeks? That must be a nice chunk of money coming your way at least!

Yes! All 12 weeks showing as PAID. It's a lot of money which is why I'm so anxious about it actually hitting my account. The waiting has been absolutely brutal.

Just to add some context: The PAID status means ESD has already processed the payment on their end, so the money is definitely coming. The timing now depends entirely on the banking system. One thing to keep in mind - if this is your first payment after approval, it sometimes takes one day longer than subsequent payments will. I've worked with hundreds of claimants, and the vast majority see funds within 2 business days, with 3 days being the maximum for almost everyone. Also, if you need to reach ESD for any reason (like if the deposit doesn't show up by day 3), I highly recommend using Claimyr (claimyr.com). It helped me get through to an actual ESD agent in about 15 minutes when I had a payment delay issue. They have a video showing how it works: https://youtu.be/7DieNd3C7zQ?si=26TzE_zGms-DODN3. Saved me hours of redial frustration.

Thanks for the detailed explanation! If it doesn't show up by Monday I'll definitely check out that Claimyr service. After 12 weeks of trying to get through to ESD, anything that saves me from more hours on hold sounds worth it.

Did anyone tell you if they're paying interest on that backpay? 12 weeks is ridiculous and they should be compensating people for these delays. The whole system is broken. I had to wait 8 weeks last year and when I finally got through to someone, they said my claim had been sitting there with a simple flag that could have been fixed in 5 minutes. FIVE MINUTES!!! But it took 8 weeks because no one looked at it.

they dont pay interest lol... that would be nice tho. ESD is a govt agency not a bank

No interest, unfortunately. Honestly at this point I'm just relieved to be getting anything at all. The uncertainty was the worst part.

Make sure you check if your payment method is actually set to direct deposit. I had a similar situation where my status changed to PAID but after 4 days nothing arrived. Turns out my account defaulted to the ESD debit card even though I thought I had set up direct deposit. Had to wait another week for that stupid card to arrive in the mail. Go to your payment settings in eServices and verify it shows your bank account info.

Oh no! Just checked and you're right - it shows the ESD debit card as my payment method even though I DEFINITELY set up direct deposit in January. This is so frustrating! Do you know if I can change it now, or am I stuck waiting for the card?

You can still change your payment method even after your claims show PAID status. Log in to eServices, go to Settings > Payment Method, and update it to direct deposit with your bank information. If you do this within 24 hours of the PAID status appearing, there's a good chance the payment will go to your bank account instead of the card. However, if it's been more than a day, the payment may already be processing to the card. In that case, once you receive the card, you can transfer the funds to your bank account through the card's online portal.

THANK YOU! Just changed it to direct deposit and triple-checked all my bank info is correct. Crossing my fingers it's not too late and the payment goes to my bank account. What a mess.
