ESD payment status changed to 'paid' - how many days until money hits my account?

Just logged into my ESD account and noticed my pending payments finally switched to 'paid' status after being stuck on 'pending' for what felt like forever! This is my first time on unemployment (got laid off from construction job last month), so I'm not sure what happens next. For those who've been through this before - how long does it typically take for the money to actually show up in my bank account after the status changes to 'paid'? Is it usually 2-3 days? I've got rent coming up on the 1st and really need to know if I should be making other arrangements. Thanks!

Congrats on getting to 'paid' status! For direct deposit, it typically takes 24-48 hours from when it shows 'paid' in the system. If you're using the ESD debit card option, it could take 2-3 business days. The exact timing also depends on your bank's processing time. If today is Friday, you might not see it until Monday or Tuesday because of the weekend.

Thanks for the quick response! I set up direct deposit when I first applied. So there's a chance I might see it by tomorrow? That would be amazing. Been stressing about this for weeks.

I'm with Chase, hopefully they're on the faster side. Thanks for sharing your experience!

If you don't mind me asking, how long were you stuck in pending? I'm on week 4 of pending with no payment and getting desperate. Called ESD 37 times this week with no luck getting through.

I was stuck for about 3 weeks. First it said 'processing' then 'pending' for what felt like forever. No explanation why. I tried calling too but always got the busy signal or it would hang up on me after being on hold.

Try using Claimyr to get through to ESD! I was in the same boat - calling 20+ times a day with no luck. Found this service at claimyr.com that got me connected to an ESD agent in under an hour. They have a video showing how it works: https://youtu.be/7DieNd3C7zQ?si=26TzE_zGms-DODN3. Totally worth it to get my pending issue resolved instead of waiting for weeks.

THE SYSTEM IS DESIGNED TO MAKE YOU WAIT!!! They say 24-48 hours but sometimes it can take up to 5 DAYS especially if there's a holiday or weekend. ESD is ALWAYS slow with EVERYTHING they do!!!! 😡

While ESD does face challenges with processing times, especially during high volume periods, the payment transfer timing is actually mostly dependent on the banking system, not ESD. Once ESD marks it as 'paid,' they've processed their part and it's in the ACH system.

For direct deposit, the standard timeline is 24-48 business hours after the 'paid' status appears. However, if your payment status changed to 'paid' late in the day (after 2pm), it might not have made it into that day's ACH processing batch. Also note that your bank may have a hold policy for ACH transfers, especially for first-time deposits. For anyone experiencing extended delays (5+ business days after 'paid' status), you should contact both your bank and ESD, as that's unusual and could indicate a problem with your banking information in the system. Make sure to verify that your account numbers were entered correctly in your ESD profile.

It changed to paid around 10am, so hopefully that means it made it into today's processing. I double-checked my banking info and everything looks correct. Thank you so much for the detailed explanation!

Quick update question - did your money arrive yet? I'm curious because I just had my status change to paid today too!

Yes! It actually hit my account this morning! So it was about 1 business day for me. Good luck with yours!

Just wanted to add that if you're worried about timing, you can also check your bank's mobile app or online banking to see if there are any pending deposits. Sometimes the money shows up as "pending" in your account before it's officially available. Also, if you have overdraft protection or need to make a payment urgently, some banks will let you access pending direct deposits early if you call and explain the situation. Fingers crossed it comes through quickly for you!
