ESD payment shows 'paid' but not in my bank account yet - normal processing time?
I just checked my ESD account and it says my unemployment payment was issued today, but I checked my bank account 3 times already and nothing has shown up. Is this normal? How long does it usually take between ESD saying "paid" and the money actually hitting your account? My rent is due in 2 days and I'm getting nervous. Is there a delay with banks processing these payments or should I be calling ESD to figure out what's going on?

This is totally normal! ESD marks it as paid on their end when they issue the payment, but then it takes 1-3 business days for your bank to process and post the deposit. I always see mine show as 'paid' on Monday or Tuesday, but it doesn't hit my account until Wednesday or Thursday sometimes. As long as your ESD account shows it as paid, you should be fine!

•Thx for the quick response! That's a relief to hear. I'll give it another day before I start panicking then. Does it usually take the full 3 days every time?

Yep, what the previous poster said is correct. There's always a delay between when ESD processes a payment and when it actually appears in your bank account. It depends on your bank too - some process ACH transfers faster than others. I have BECU and it usually takes 2 business days. If you're on direct deposit, you should definitely see it within 3 business days max. If you're still using the debit card option, it's usually faster (next day).

•not always true i had a 5 day wait once with my credit union!!! depends on the bank and sometimes ESD has glitches with the transfer system too. if its been more than a week THEN start calling

UPDATE: You guys were right! The money showed up in my account this morning. Took about 36 hours from when ESD marked it as paid. Thanks for keeping me from freaking out unnecessarily!

•Glad it worked out! For future reference, my payments always follow the same pattern - ESD marks paid on Monday, money hits my account Wednesday morning. It's like clockwork once you know your bank's processing time.

The most frustrating thing about ESD is their communication. They should clearly explain these timeframes on their website! I remember my first payment, I was PANICKING calling them over and over when it showed paid but wasn't in my account yet. Wasted hours trying to get through to someone when it was just normal processing time. They really need to fix these basic information gaps.

•FYI for anyone having trouble actually reaching ESD by phone - I discovered this service called Claimyr that helped me get through to an agent in about 20 minutes when I had an adjudication issue last month. They basically keep dialing for you and get you in the call queue. Saved me days of frustration. They have a video demo of how it works: https://youtu.be/7DieNd3C7zQ?si=26TzE_zGms-DODN3 and their website is claimyr.com if anyone needs it for future reference.

Quick FYI - if you filed your weekly claim on Sunday, and your ESD account showed "paid" on Tuesday, here's what's happening behind the scenes: 1. ESD processes payments in batches overnight Monday 2. Tuesday morning it shows as "paid" in their system 3. The ACH transfer to your bank begins Tuesday 4. Your bank receives it but has its own processing time (1-3 days) 5. Money appears in your account Wednesday-Friday depending on your bank Also, first payments can sometimes take longer than subsequent ones. Once you're in their regular payment cycle, it becomes very consistent.

my bank is ALWAYS slow with these deposits!!! esd will say paid and then i wait 2-3 days EVERY TIME! i think the banks hold the $ on purpose to make interest or something tbh. i started using cash app direct deposit and its way faster, usually next day after esd says paid. just an option if ur tired of waiting

•That's interesting about Cash App being faster! I didn't know you could use that for unemployment deposits. Have you had any issues with it? Do you just change your direct deposit info on the ESD website to set that up?

Does anyone know if this delay happens with the ReliaCard too? I'm thinking about switching to the card option if it's faster than direct deposit.

•In my experience, ReliaCard payments are available 1 day faster than direct deposit on average. The downside is you then have to transfer from ReliaCard to your bank account if you need the money there for bills, which adds another delay. Unless you're comfortable paying bills directly from the ReliaCard or using it for purchases, direct deposit is probably still more convenient overall.
