ESD says payment issued but nothing in my bank account yet - normal delay?

Just checked my ESD eServices account and it shows my UI payment was processed today, but I've checked my bank account three times and there's nothing there! I'm starting to get nervous because rent is due in 4 days and I need that $748 to cover it. The payment status says 'paid' with today's date. This is my third weekly claim payment - the first two showed up in my account same day they were processed. Is there normally a delay sometimes or should I be worried something's wrong? Anyone else experience random delays with their unemployment direct deposits?

Yeah this is totally normal sometimes. The ESD system shows it as paid the moment they process it on their end, but banks can take 1-3 business days to actually post it to your account. I've had payments show up same day before and then randomly take till the next day. If it was processed today, I'd give it till tomorrow afternoon before worrying.

Thanks, that makes me feel better! I guess I got spoiled with the first two payments coming through so quickly.

mine always takes exactly 1 day after it says paid. like clockwork. your bank might be slower tho

The timing can vary depending on several factors. While ESD marks payments as 'paid' when they initiate the transfer, the actual deposit timing depends on: 1. Your bank's processing schedule 2. Whether today is a business day 3. What time ESD processed the payment 4. If there are any federal banking holidays this week If it was marked paid today, I'd expect it to appear in your account by tomorrow or the next business day at the latest. If it doesn't show up within 3 business days, then it's worth contacting ESD to check if there might be an issue with your direct deposit information.

Thank you for the detailed explanation! I'll wait until Thursday before I start panicking.

OMG the EXACT same thing happened to me last month!!! I was freaking OUT because I needed to pay my car payment. I called my bank and they said they didn't even see a pending deposit from ESD yet! But then it just randomly showed up the next morning. I think sometimes ESD's system runs the payment batch but the actual money transfer takes a bit longer to process through the banking system. The whole thing is SO stressful though when you're counting on that money!!

It really is stressful! I wish they'd explain this better on the website instead of just marking it 'paid' when it might not actually arrive that day.

I tried calling the regular number but got the 'high call volume' message and it hung up on me. I'll try again tomorrow if the money doesn't show up.

I had something similar happen where the payment was delayed by 2 days even though the ESD website said it was issued. If you need to reach ESD to check on payment status, I'd recommend using Claimyr (claimyr.com). I was stuck in a similar situation last month and couldn't get through, but Claimyr got me connected to an actual ESD agent within about 30 minutes. There's a demo video at https://youtu.be/7DieNd3C7zQ?si=26TzE_zGms-DODN3 that shows how it works. The agent was able to verify that my payment was actually in transit and explain why there was a delay (turned out my bank was holding it for verification because the amount was different from my previous payments).

Thanks for the tip! If it doesn't show up tomorrow I might try that. Getting through to someone who can actually see what's happening would definitely help my anxiety about this.

Does that Claimyr thing actually work? I've spent HOURS on hold with ESD before.

It worked for me, but I still had to wait a bit. Just not nearly as long as trying to call directly. The agent told me they were getting slammed with calls about the new verification system.

This is usually just a timing issue. ESD's payment system and the banking ACH transfer system don't always sync up perfectly. Here's what's happening behind the scenes: - ESD marks your payment as "paid" in their system when they initiate the transfer - The payment then goes through the ACH (Automated Clearing House) network - Depending on when ESD's daily batch processing occurs, your payment might not actually hit the ACH system until late in the day - If the ACH transfer is initiated after your bank's daily processing cutoff (often around 3-5pm), it won't show up until the next business day I work in financial services and see this confusion all the time. 99% of the time, your money will show up within 1-2 business days after ESD marks it paid. The first two might have shown up same-day because they were processed earlier in ESD's batch cycle. If it doesn't appear by Thursday, then you should contact ESD to make sure they have the correct banking information on file.

This makes perfect sense! Thank you for explaining the process so clearly. I'll wait a couple days before getting too worried.

Yes! It appeared in my account this morning. Everyone was right - just needed to be patient. Thanks for checking!

Glad to hear it worked out! The ESD system is always a bit nerve-wracking when money is tight.
