NY unemployment FPUC $300 ending but system says benefits exhausted - what's happening?

I'm really confused about my NY unemployment benefits right now. I've been getting the extra $300 plus my regular UI payment each week. Isn't that the FPUC benefit? I thought this was supposed to end on September 5th, 2025, but when I logged in today to certify, the system says I've 'exhausted all benefits'??? Did they end this early or is something wrong with my account? Has anyone else gotten this message? I still have several weeks before September and really need these payments.

The $300 FPUC (Federal Pandemic Unemployment Compensation) does end September 5th, but that message about exhausting benefits usually means your REGULAR UI benefits have run out, not the federal supplement. The $300 is just an add-on to your base benefits. Check how many weeks you've claimed so far - NY regular UI typically lasts 26 weeks. If you've hit that limit, you'll need to apply for an extension.

Omg that makes sense! I started claiming in March so that would be about 26 weeks. So what do I do now? Is there an extension I can apply for or am I just out of luck?

sounds like u used up ur regular benefits but the system should automatically enroll you in extended benefits if ur eligible. happened to me too. give it a few days and check back

Thanks, I hope that's the case. It's just scary to suddenly see 'benefits exhausted' with no warning or explanation!

Two different things happening here. The $300 FPUC is the federal supplement that ends Sept 5. But your REGULAR benefits have a maximum number of weeks (26). When those run out, you get that "exhausted" message. The system SHOULD automatically review you for Extended Benefits (EB), but sometimes it doesn't work right. I'd recommend calling NYSDOL ASAP to make sure they put you on Extended Benefits. Don't wait for the system to do it automatically because if there's any issue, you could miss weeks of payment.

Good luck CALLING them lol... I spent 6 weeks trying to reach someone. Their phone system is a joke and hangs up on you after 2 hours on hold!!!

had the exact same thing happen last week!! i called them (took forever to get thru) and they said my UI benefits ran out but i qualified for the Extended Benefits Program. they had to manually add it to my account. after that the extra $300 started showing up again too. u DEF need to call cause the system doesnt always switch u over automatically even if ur eligible

That's really helpful to know! How long did it take to get through to someone? I've tried calling a few times today and can't get past the automated system.

I was stuck in the same situation last month. Spent DAYS trying to call NYSDOL with no luck - constant busy signals or getting disconnected after waiting on hold forever. I finally used this service called Claimyr (claimyr.com) that holds your place in line and calls you when an agent is available. Totally worth it - got through in about 45 mins instead of days of trying. They have a video that shows how it works: https://youtu.be/Rdqa1gKtxuE When I finally talked to someone, they confirmed my regular UI was exhausted but I qualified for EB (Extended Benefits). They had to manually update my account though - it wasn't automatic like it's supposed to be.

Thank you! I'm going to try this tomorrow. I've been trying to call all day with no luck. Just need to get this fixed before rent is due next week.

Let me clarify this for everyone: 1. Regular UI benefits in NY last for 26 weeks maximum 2. The $300 FPUC supplement is added to WHATEVER unemployment program you're on 3. When regular UI ends, you may qualify for Extended Benefits (EB) 4. The system should automatically transition you, but often doesn't 5. Both regular UI and EB will receive the $300 FPUC until September 5, 2025 The "exhausted benefits" message specifically means your regular UI claim has reached its maximum weeks. You likely need to contact NYSDOL to ensure you're properly enrolled in the EB program if you qualify.

This is exactly what I needed to know, thank you! I'm definitely going to call tomorrow to get this sorted out.

OMG the same thing happened to my sister!! It turned out that she had to verify her identity again for some reason before they would put her on extended benefits. The website never told her this - she found out after FINALLY getting through to someone on the phone. Check your message inbox on the portal too - sometimes they send notices there instead of email.

Just checking back - were you able to get through to NYSDOL? Make sure to have your NY.gov ID and all your claim information ready when you call. Also, check if you received any DocuSign emails - sometimes they require additional documentation for the Extended Benefits program that wasn't needed for regular UI.

I actually got through this morning! Used that Claimyr service someone mentioned and it worked great. Agent confirmed my regular benefits were exhausted but I qualify for EB. She manually updated my account and said I should be able to certify again starting Sunday. Thanks everyone for the help!
