NY unemployment says benefits exhausted when I should have weeks left - help!

I filed my unemployment claim on Wednesday and the site confirmed my benefits were coming. When I checked today, suddenly it says my benefits are 'exhausted'! I was counting on that money for my rent next week. Has this happened to anyone else recently? I've been trying to call NYSDOL for the past 3 hours but can't get through to an actual person. I thought NY benefits were supposed to last until September 2025? This makes no sense - my claim should have at least 10 more weeks. Is this a system glitch or am I missing something?

That's a relief to hear I'm not the only one. Have you had any luck getting through on the phone? I've tried calling 20+ times today.

EXACTLY the same thing happened to me this morning!!! I was approved two weeks ago and received one payment, checked my account and it says BENEFITS EXHAUSTED?!?! I literally qualified for 26 weeks and now it says I have 0 left? Rent is due Monday and now I'm PANICKING. The system is so broken!!

I think there's a system issue happening today. My friend who works at a community assistance center said they've had multiple people come in with the same problem since this morning. Probably a database error or something.

I literally just got off the phone with NYSDOL about this! Took me forever to get through. They said there's a system update happening and some accounts are showing incorrect information. The rep I spoke to said it should be fixed by Monday but to keep certifying as normal.

Wow, you actually got through to someone? I've been calling non-stop! Thanks for sharing this info - at least I can stop panicking a bit. Did they say if the payments will still go out on schedule?

This appears to be a widespread technical issue with the NY unemployment system today. I'd recommend: 1. Take screenshots of your account showing the incorrect 'exhausted' status 2. Continue to certify on your regular day even if it shows exhausted 3. Check your payment history to confirm what you've received so far 4. Be patient until Monday to see if it resolves as the other commenter mentioned This happens occasionally during system updates. Your benefit weeks haven't actually disappeared - it's just displaying incorrectly. The database maintains your actual eligibility separately from what's showing on the user interface.

Thank you so much for this detailed explanation! I'll definitely take screenshots. Is there any way to check my remaining benefit weeks other than the main dashboard? Some other section of the site perhaps?

When i had something similar happen last year, i tried logging in using incognito mode in my browser and it showed my correct info. Might be worth trying that? Sometimes the system caches old data and shows incorrect status. Also try the mobile app if you haven't already - sometimes it updates correctly when the website doesn't.

Just tried this and it worked!!! When I used incognito mode it showed my correct benefit balance! Thank you SO MUCH for this tip!

After trying for 3 hours to reach someone at NYSDOL about a similar issue last month, I discovered Claimyr which connected me to an agent in about 15 minutes. Totally worth it when you need to resolve urgent benefit issues. They have a demo video at https://youtu.be/Rdqa1gKtxuE that shows exactly how it works. Their website is claimyr.com - it basically holds your place in the phone queue so you don't have to keep redialing. I was skeptical but it actually worked when nothing else did.

Has anybody noticed that these glitches ALWAYS happen right around rent time? I swear the system is programmed to break down at the end of each month. Been dealing with NY unemployment for 8 months now and the pattern is too obvious to ignore.

It's probably more that system updates and maintenance often happen over weekends when they expect lower traffic, which coincidentally falls near month-end when most people need their money. But I agree the timing couldn't be worse.

UPDATE for everyone in this thread: NYSDOL just posted on their official social media that they're experiencing a technical issue affecting benefit displays for some claimants. They confirmed benefits are NOT actually exhausted and the system should be fixed by Monday morning. They say all scheduled payments will still process normally despite the display error.

Thank you for sharing this! This is such a relief. I've been stressing all day about this.

Does anyone know if we'll still get our payments on time even with this glitch? My payment is supposed to hit my account on Monday and I CANNOT be late on rent again or I'm facing eviction!!!

According to NYSDOL's announcement, all scheduled payments should process normally despite the display error. The payment system operates separately from the user interface that's showing the incorrect status. If your payment was already in process before this glitch, it shouldn't be affected.

Just checked my account again and it's back to normal! Shows my correct weeks remaining now. Try refreshing your accounts everyone!

You're right! Just checked mine and it's fixed too - showing my correct benefit balance and weeks remaining. What a relief! Thanks everyone for your help with this.

This exact same thing happened to my sister last week! She panicked for hours thinking her benefits were cut off. Turns out it was just a display glitch on their end. The worst part is how hard it is to reach anyone by phone to get confirmation. I'm glad to see from the updates in this thread that it's getting resolved quickly this time. For anyone still worried - definitely take screenshots like others suggested, and try the incognito browser trick if your account is still showing the wrong info!
