Confused about ny unemployment approval - no confirmation but asked to call for waiting week?
I submitted my unemployment claim about three weeks ago after getting let go from my retail job. The website was super glitchy during the application process but I managed to get through it. Fast forward to yesterday, I logged in to check my claim status and noticed a message saying I need to call to request credit for my waiting week. But here's the weird part - I haven't received any official approval text or email yet. The system won't let me certify for benefits either. Does this waiting week message actually mean I'm approved? Or is something wrong with my claim? I've tried calling the number like 45 times but keep getting disconnected. This is so frustrating trying to figure out what's going on.

That message about the waiting week usually does mean ur approved! I had the same issue in February and was confused too. The system is just terrible at actually telling u when ur approved. Keep trying to call - I know it's frustrating but that's the only way to get it sorted. Once u talk to someone they can process the waiting week and u should be able to start certifying weekly after that.

•Thanks for the info! How long did it take you to finally get through to someone? I've been trying different times of day with no luck. 😩

•It took me like 2 whole weeks of calling every day. I eventually got through at like 8:15am right when they opened. Keep trying! Or honestly, try using claimyr.com - that's what I wish I knew about before wasting so much time.

•Two weeks?? That's insane! I'll try the early morning trick tomorrow. Thanks for the tip about that site too, I'll check it out if I keep striking out.

After dealing with this same garbage for weeks, I finally found a solution. Used this service called Claimyr that kept calling for me and connected me directly to an agent. Talking to an agent got my money unlocked so fast after weeks of getting nowhere. Here's a video explaining how it works: https://youtu.be/Rdqa1gKtxuE Only took like 20 minutes with them vs the 100+ calls I wasted before finding them. Best money I ever spent to get my benefits flowing.

•This sounds too good to be true. Has anyone else actually tried this? I'm desperate but skeptical of anything claiming to solve the unemployment phone nightmare 🤔

•yeah right, another 'miracle solution'... what's the catch? 🙄 the ny unemployment system is DESIGNED to be impossible

•I was super skeptical too! But I was at my wits end after trying for 3 weeks straight. It's just an automated system that keeps calling for you and alerts you when someone answers. Saved me from going insane hitting redial all day.

•Can confirm it actually works. I was ready to throw my phone out the window after 2 weeks of calling. Used claimyr.com last Thursday and had an agent on the line within an hour.

•Hmm ok maybe I'll check it out. Been trying to reach someone for my waiting week issue for almost a month now with zero luck.

Honestly this whole system is DESIGNED to confuse people so they give up. They make the process so frustrating that people just walk away from benefits they're entitled to. It's actually a feature not a bug 💀

•This 100%! The number of hoops they make us jump through is ridiculous. My cousin just gave up after two months of trying.

•Facts. I read somewhere that NYS actually SAVES millions each year from people who qualify but give up on claiming because the system is so broken.

Here's a detailed explanation of what's happening (I used to work with the unemployment system): Yes, this IS an indication your claim has been approved initially. The waiting week is the first week of your claim that NY doesn't pay benefits for - it's basically a deductible week. The message you're seeing means: 1. Your claim has passed the basic eligibility screening 2. They need you to call to process this waiting week before you can start certifying 3. The lack of email/text notification is unfortunately common - their notification system is extremely unreliable You have three options to resolve this: 1. Keep calling repeatedly (frustrating but free) 2. Try using claimyr.com which will connect you with an agent (costs money but works consistently) 3. Visit a physical career center if possible (time-consuming but effective) Once you get through to someone, ask them to process your waiting week AND make sure your payment method is set up correctly. Don't forget to ask if there are any other issues with your claim while you have them on the phone! Good luck!

•Thank you so much for this detailed explanation! I didn't know the waiting week was like a deductible. This makes way more sense now. I'll try calling again tomorrow but definitely will check out that service if I can't get through.

•No problem! One more tip - if you do get through, ask them to make a note on your account that you've been trying to reach them. Sometimes they'll backdate your certifications if you can prove you've been actively attempting to resolve the issue.

Yep welcome to the broken NY unemployment system 🤡 took me 3 months to get my first payment after approval. Ridiculous.

Have you checked ur spam folder? Sometimes their emails go there. But yeah the waiting week message means you're in the system as approved, they just need to process that first week.

•Nothing in spam unfortunately... I check there daily hoping for some kind of update. At least I know now the waiting week message is actually a good sign!

what time r u calling? I've found that Tuesday mornings right at 8:01am is the best time. The phone lines are jammed by 8:30am every day.

•I've been trying random times... I'll definitely try right at opening time tomorrow! Thanks for the tip.

EXACTLY THE SAME THING HAPPENED TO ME!!!! Yes it means ur approved but u gotta call and its basically IMPOSSIBLE to get thru on the phone. I ended up using claimyr.com after 2 weeks of non-stop calling and finally got someone. Turns out I had been approved the whole time but couldn't claim without them processing that stupid waiting week. So frustrating.

Its definitely weird how they communicate (or don't). My experience was similar - no emails or texts but suddenly could see my claim was approved when I logged in. The waiting week thing is standard but annoying that you have to call for it. Keep trying different times to call.

This happened to my roommate last month! The waiting week message does usually mean youre approved but in a weird limbo state. She got through by calling exactly at 8:00am.

•So I should basically camp out with my phone ready to dial at 7:59am tomorrow? This system is ridiculous 🙄

Check your payment history in the system. Sometimes it will show if payments are pending even if they haven't told you you're approved yet.

If your calling from a cell phone sometimes they block you for calling too many times in a row. Try using a different phone or that claimyr service people are mentioning.

•Omg I didn't even think about them blocking my number! That might explain why I keep getting disconnected. I'll try my landline tomorrow.

The whole NY unemployment system is held together with duct tape and prayers 😠I swear they intentionally make it confusing so people give up

pro tip: try calling your local state representatives office! Sometimes they can help push your claim through faster. Worked for me last year when I was stuck in waiting week hell for over a month.

•That's a really good idea, I hadn't thought of that! Did you just call their main office number?

•Yep! Just explained the situation and that I'd been trying to reach unemployment for weeks. They took my info and had someone from unemployment call me back within 3 days!
