ESD not letting me file weekly claim suddenly - just got approved
I'm seriously confused and starting to worry. I was recently approved for unemployment benefits (got my approval letter last week), and I've only been claiming for about 4 weeks total. But today when I tried to file my weekly claim, the system wouldn't let me! No error message or anything - the option to file just isn't there. Has anyone experienced this? Is there some weird timing thing I don't know about? I really need this week's benefits to cover my rent due next week. I've checked my eServices account multiple times and restarted my computer thinking it might be a glitch.

This happens sometimes. A few things to check: 1) Make sure you're trying to file during your correct filing window (Sunday through Saturday following your claim week). 2) Check if your claim shows any alerts/issues in eServices - sometimes they put your claim on hold without clearly telling you. 3) Look for any correspondence in your eServices inbox - they might have sent something requiring action. If none of these apply, it could be a system issue on their end.

•Thanks for responding! I double-checked and I'm definitely in my filing window (Sunday morning is when I always file). No alerts showing in my account, but I did notice something weird - under "Claim Status" it says "Pending Issue" even though I was approved last week. Could that be causing the problem?

•I just checked all my notices and there's nothing new since my approval letter... this is so frustrating!

The "Pending Issue" status you mentioned is definitely the problem. This means something has flagged in their system that requires adjudication - could be an employer response, identity verification, job search compliance, etc. Unfortunately, the system automatically prevents you from filing weekly claims while this is active. You'll need to contact ESD directly to find out what the issue is, as it's often not displayed clearly in your online account. Once resolved, you'll be able to file for the missed weeks retroactively, but you need to address whatever the pending issue is first. Don't wait too long as there are time limits on resolving these matters.

•Oh no! That's really concerning since I need this money soon. Do you know how long these "pending issues" typically take to resolve? I've tried calling ESD about 15 times today but keep getting disconnected after the automated system.

I had exactly this happening in January!!!! So infuriating. Called ESD 45+ times over THREE DAYS and couldn't get through. The worst part is they don't even tell you what the "pending issue" is on the website so your just left guessing what went wrong. For me it turned out my former employer contested something on my application even though I was laid off. Took 6 weeks to resolve and I almost got evicted because of it. Honestly the ESD phone system is COMPLETELY BROKEN, it's like they don't want people to actually get help!!!

•6 WEEKS?? I can't wait that long! I have bills due now and was counting on this payment. This is so stressful.

I'd recommend trying Claimyr to get through to ESD quickly. I was in a similar situation last month with a mysterious "pending issue" and spent days trying to get through on my own. Used Claimyr (claimyr.com) and they got me connected to an actual ESD agent in about 30 minutes. They have a video showing how it works: https://youtu.be/7DieNd3C7zQ?si=26TzE_zGms-DODN3 The agent was able to tell me exactly what the pending issue was (some missing employment info they needed) and cleared it up right away. Was able to file my weekly claim that same day after they removed the hold.

•is this a legit service? never heard of it before

•Yes, it's legit. Basically they keep calling ESD's phone system for you using their tech until they get through, then connect you with the agent. Saved me from the endless redial nightmare.

One more thing to try: check if you can see your weekly claim status under the "Weekly Claims" tab in eServices. Sometimes there's more information there about why a claim is being held. Also, while waiting to get this resolved, make sure you continue completing your job search activities (3 per week) and documenting them. Even though you can't file right now, you'll need to report these activities when you file retroactively after the pending issue is cleared.

•Thanks for reminding me about the job search activities. I didn't think about needing to keep those up while this is being resolved. I'll definitely continue doing and documenting them.

Just wanted to follow up - were you able to get through to ESD and resolve this? What was the pending issue in your case?

•Update: I finally got through to ESD yesterday! Turns out my former employer questioned my hours worked (they reported fewer hours than I claimed). The agent said they'd expedite the adjudication since it's a relatively small discrepancy. She also helped me file my missed weekly claim over the phone and said I should be able to file online again starting next week. Such a relief!
