The 8 months you mentioned should be plenty if you've been consistently earning decent wages. I've seen people qualify with less time if they had good earnings.
oh and get the ESD mobile app if you have a smartphone, makes filing weekly claims way easier than using the website
Also wanted to mention that if you're worried about calling ESD and can't get through the normal way, that Claimyr thing people mentioned actually works pretty well. I was skeptical at first but it connected me within 45 minutes when I'd been trying to call for weeks on my own.
One last thing - keep all your termination paperwork safe. If your employer gave you any written reason for the firing, that will be important evidence. Also check if you're eligible for any final paycheck or vacation payout.
Update us when you hear back from Washington ESD! I'm rooting for you and hope they approve your claim quickly. You deserve benefits after what you went through.
I know this is scary but try to use this time to maybe consider career pivots or additional training. Sometimes being forced into a change leads to better opportunities.
Don't forget about networking! Reach out to former colleagues, join professional groups, attend virtual meetups. A lot of jobs aren't even posted publicly.

Just wanted to add that if you're getting severance pay, that might affect when your unemployment benefits start. Washington ESD considers severance as wages so there could be a delay. Something to keep in mind when planning your finances.

•It usually just delays when your benefits start, not the whole claim. But you should definitely mention it when you file so they can calculate everything correctly.

•This is exactly the kind of situation where calling Washington ESD directly helps. If you use something like Claimyr to get through, they can explain how your severance affects your claim timeline.

The whole system is pretty straightforward once you get started. Just make sure you do your weekly claims every week even if you're still in the waiting period or dealing with severance issues. Missing weekly claims can mess up your whole claim.
