How to file weekly unemployment claim on my.ny.gov - keep getting error messages
I'm trying to file my weekly unemployment claim but the my.ny.gov website keeps giving me error messages when I try to submit. I've been unemployed for 2 weeks now and this is my third week trying to file. The system lets me answer all the questions about whether I worked, if I'm able and available, and my job search activities, but then when I hit submit it just says 'system error - try again later.' I've tried different browsers and cleared my cache. My claim was approved last month so I know I'm eligible. Has anyone else had trouble filing their weekly claims recently? I'm worried I'm going to miss the deadline and lose my benefits.

The my.ny.gov system has been having issues lately, especially during peak filing times. Try filing your weekly claim early in the morning (6-8 AM) or late at night after 10 PM when there's less traffic. Also make sure you're using the direct link from your NYS Department of Labor dashboard rather than navigating through the general website. The weekly claim filing window is usually Sunday through Saturday, so you still have time if you keep trying.

•Thanks! I didn't know about the peak times thing. I'll try filing tonight after 10 PM and see if that works better.

If you're still having trouble after trying off-peak hours, you can also call the NYS Department of Labor automated system to file your weekly claim by phone. The number should be in your determination letter. However, I've found that when the website is having problems, the phone system often is too. Another option is to try using a different device entirely - sometimes mobile vs desktop makes a difference with my.ny.gov.

•The phone system has been a nightmare for me. I spent 2 hours on hold last week just to file my weekly claim and then got disconnected. If you really need to talk to someone at NYS Department of Labor, I recently discovered this service called Claimyr at claimyr.com that actually gets you through to agents. They have a video demo at https://youtu.be/qyftW-mnTNI showing how it works. Saved me so much frustration trying to get my adjudication issue resolved.

Make sure you're answering the job search questions correctly on your weekly claim. You need to have made at least 3 job contacts per week and keep a detailed log. If you put down that you didn't do enough job search activities, the system might be flagging your claim for review which could cause the error message.

•I've been doing my job searches and logging them properly. I think it's just a technical glitch with the website since I can fill out everything fine, it's just the final submit that fails.

this whole NYS Department of Labor system is a JOKE. took me 6 months to get my initial claim approved and now the weekly filing doesn't even work half the time. how are people supposed to survive when they make it this hard to get your benefits??

Had the exact same issue last month! Turned out I had to update my browser and disable ad blockers for the my.ny.gov site. Also check that you don't have any VPN or privacy extensions running - the NYS Department of Labor website is really picky about security settings.
