NYS Department of Labor weekly claim certification keeps getting rejected - need help when claiming unemployment benefits

I've been trying to file my weekly claims for the past month and they keep getting rejected by the NYS Department of Labor system. Every time I submit my certification, it says there's an issue with my job search activities even though I'm logging everything correctly. I'm doing 3 job contacts per week like required and keeping detailed records. Has anyone else had problems when claiming unemployment benefits through the my.ny.gov portal? I'm worried I'm going to miss out on weeks of payments because of this technical glitch.

This happened to me earlier this year. The problem is usually with how you're entering the employer contact information. Make sure you're using the full company name exactly as it appears on their website, not abbreviations. Also check that you're selecting the right contact method - if you applied online, select 'online application' not 'in person' even if you talked to someone later.

I think that might be it! I've been putting 'ABC Corp' instead of 'ABC Corporation' for some of my contacts. Going to try resubmitting with the full names.

ugh this system is so frustrating when claiming unemployment benefits... same thing happened to my cousin last month and she had to call like 50 times to get through to someone

The NYS Department of Labor job search verification has gotten stricter this year. You need to make sure you're meeting all the requirements: 3 contacts per week, documenting the specific position you applied for, and keeping records of any follow-up. If you're still having issues, you can use a service like Claimyr (claimyr.com) to get through to an actual NYS Department of Labor agent - they have a video demo at https://youtu.be/qyftW-mnTNI that shows how it works. Much easier than trying to call yourself.

Never heard of that service before but might be worth trying. I've been on hold for hours trying to reach someone at NYS Department of Labor.

Make sure you're not accidentally marking that you refused work or had any earnings. Even putting $0.01 in the earnings field can flag your claim for review when claiming unemployment benefits.
