How to check my unemployment status - NYS Department of Labor claim showing confusing information
I'm really confused about how to properly check my unemployment status with NYS Department of Labor. I filed my initial claim about 2 weeks ago and I've been doing my weekly certifications, but when I log into my.ny.gov the information seems all over the place. Sometimes it shows 'pending' and other times it just shows my payment history with $0 amounts. I called the NYS Department of Labor phone number but kept getting busy signals. Is there a reliable way to actually see what's happening with my claim? I'm worried something went wrong during the application process.

The my.ny.gov portal can be really confusing at first. When you log in, you want to look for the 'Unemployment Services' section, then click on 'View Payment History' and 'Claim Summary.' Your claim status should show as either 'Active,' 'Pending,' or if there's an issue, it might say 'Under Review' or 'Adjudication Required.' The $0 payments are normal if your claim is still being processed or if there are eligibility issues that need to be resolved.

•Thanks! I found the claim summary section. It says 'Under Review' - does that mean there's a problem with my application?

under review usually means they need to verify something about your employment or earnings. could be anything from your last employer not responding to their inquiry or they need additional documentation from you. check if theres any messages in your account that you might have missed

I had the same issue last month and it was driving me crazy not being able to get through to anyone at NYS Department of Labor. The phone system is absolutely terrible - constant busy signals and when you do get through, you're on hold for hours. I ended up using this service called Claimyr that actually got me connected to a real person at the unemployment office. You can check it out at claimyr.com - they have a video demo at https://youtu.be/qyftW-mnTNI that shows exactly how it works. Saved me so much frustration.

•Never heard of that service before. Did they charge you a lot to make the call?

•It was worth it for me since I was losing sleep worrying about my claim status. Much better than spending entire days trying to get through on my own.

The whole NYS Department of Labor system is a joke honestly. They make it impossible to get real information about your claim and then act like it's your fault when you can't figure out what's going on. I've been waiting 3 weeks just to talk to someone about why my payments stopped!

Pro tip: if your claim shows 'Under Review,' check the 'Correspondence' section in your online account. NYS Department of Labor often sends messages there that require a response, and if you miss them, your claim can get stuck in limbo. Also make sure you're continuing to file your weekly claims even while it's under review - that's super important.

•Good call on checking correspondence! I found a message asking for wage verification from my previous job. Guess I need to contact my old employer.
