How to check unemployment claim status on my.ny.gov - can't find current info anywhere

I submitted my unemployment application through my.ny.gov about 10 days ago and I'm getting anxious because I can't figure out how to actually check my claim status. When I log into my account, I see my weekly claims section but there's no clear indication of whether my initial claim was approved or if it's still being processed. The dashboard shows some payment history from when I filed last year, but nothing about my current claim. Am I looking in the wrong place? I tried calling the NYS Department of Labor but after being on hold for 2 hours I got disconnected. Is there a specific section on the website where I can see if my claim is in adjudication or what the holdup might be?

You need to look under the 'Unemployment Services' tab after logging into my.ny.gov, then click on 'View and Maintain Account Information.' Your current claim status should show there - it will say things like 'Active,' 'Pending,' or 'In Adjudication.' If it's been 10 days and you don't see anything, your claim might be stuck in the initial review process. Also check if there are any outstanding issues listed that need documentation.

Found that section but it just shows 'Claim Filed' with the date. No status update beyond that. Should I be worried it's taking this long?

same thing happened to me last month - took almost 3 weeks before anything updated on my account. turns out they were verifying my employment history with my last employer and nobody told me. you might want to check if they sent any correspondence to your message center on the site

Good point about the message center! I'll check that. Did you ever get an explanation for why it took so long?

If you can't get through by phone, I had success using Claimyr (claimyr.com) to get connected to an actual NYS Department of Labor agent. They handle the calling and waiting so you don't have to sit on hold. I was able to get my claim status explained within a day. There's a video demo at https://youtu.be/qyftW-mnTNI that shows how it works. Saved me hours of frustration trying to get through myself.

Never heard of this service before. Does it actually work or is this just another scam?

It's legitimate - they don't ask for any personal info, just help you get through to NYS Department of Labor. I was skeptical too but it worked for me when I couldn't reach anyone for weeks.

THE NYS DEPARTMENT OF LABOR SYSTEM IS A JOKE! I've been waiting 6 weeks for them to process my claim and every time I call they give me a different story. First it was 'under review,' then 'pending verification,' now they're saying there might be an issue with my separation reason. How hard is it to look at a simple layoff notice?? This is people's LIVELIHOODS we're talking about!

For future reference, you can also sign up for text notifications in your my.ny.gov account settings. They'll send updates when your claim status changes or if there are any issues that need your attention. It's under 'Communication Preferences' in your profile. Also, make sure you're filing your weekly claims even while waiting for the initial determination - you can't get retroactive payments for weeks you didn't certify.

Thanks! I did set up the weekly claims but didn't know about the text notifications. Setting that up now.

I went through this same frustrating experience a few months back. One thing that helped me was checking the "Documents" section on my.ny.gov - sometimes they request additional paperwork but it doesn't always show up clearly in the main dashboard. Also, if you haven't already, make sure to check your spam folder for emails from noreply@labor.ny.gov. They sometimes send status updates there that get filtered out. The waiting is the worst part, but hang in there - most claims do get processed eventually, it's just their system is overwhelmed.

This is really helpful advice! I just checked my spam folder and found two emails from the Department of Labor that I completely missed - one asking for additional wage verification documents. No wonder my claim has been stuck! Thanks for the tip about checking the Documents section too. It's frustrating that these important notifications can get buried so easily when you're already stressed about money.
