How to check the status of my NYS Department of Labor unemployment claim - website not updating
I filed my unemployment claim about 10 days ago and I'm trying to figure out how to check the status but the my.ny.gov website seems confusing. When I log in, it just shows my weekly claim certification but doesn't really tell me if my initial claim is approved or still being processed. Is there a specific section I should be looking at? I'm worried something might be wrong because I haven't received any correspondence yet.

Go to the 'Unemployment Services' section after you log into my.ny.gov, then click on 'View Payment History' - that will show you if your claim has been approved and if any payments have been issued. Also check 'Correspondence' for any letters from NYS Department of Labor about your claim status.

•Thanks! I found the correspondence section but it's empty. The payment history just says 'no payments found' - does that mean my claim is still pending?

If your claim is under adjudication, it won't show approved status until they finish reviewing it. You should see something like 'adjudication in progress' in your claim summary. The 10-day timeframe is normal for initial processing, but adjudication can take 3-6 weeks depending on the complexity of your case.

•How do you know if it's in adjudication though? I don't see that phrase anywhere on my account...

I had this exact problem last month and couldn't get through to anyone at NYS Department of Labor by phone - the lines are always busy. I ended up using claimyr.com to get connected to an actual agent who could check my claim status. They have a video demo at https://youtu.be/qyftW-mnTNI that shows how it works. The agent was able to tell me my claim was approved but there was a technical glitch preventing it from showing online.

•How much does that service cost? I'm already stressed about money and don't want to pay for something I should be able to do myself.

•It was worth it for me because I was going crazy not knowing what was happening with my claim. Way easier than spending hours trying to get through on the phone.

The NYS Department of Labor system is SO frustrating! I've been dealing with this for weeks and nobody can give me a straight answer about when my claim will be processed. The whole system is broken if you ask me.

Also make sure you're continuing to file your weekly claims even if your initial claim isn't approved yet. If you miss weeks you'll have to explain why later.

•Yes I've been doing that! At least the weekly certification part works properly.

I'm going through the same thing right now - filed 2 weeks ago and still no clear status update. One thing that helped me was calling the automated phone system at 888-209-8124 and pressing option 1 then 2 to get claim status info without waiting for an agent. It at least confirmed my claim was received and gave me the effective date. Also check if you have any pending "weekly questions" in your online account - sometimes there are additional eligibility questions you need to answer before processing can continue.

•Thanks for sharing that phone number! I just tried calling 888-209-8124 and the automated system was actually helpful - it confirmed my claim was received and gave me an effective date of last Monday. Still says "under review" but at least now I know it's in the system. I didn't see any weekly questions in my account but I'll keep checking. It's reassuring to know I'm not the only one dealing with this waiting game.

I'm in a similar situation - filed my claim 8 days ago and the waiting is killing me! The automated phone line at 888-209-8124 that Zara mentioned was really helpful. When I called, it told me my claim was received and gave me my effective date, but still shows "pending review." One thing I noticed is that in the "Claim Summary" section of my.ny.gov (under Unemployment Services), there's a small status indicator that says either "Active," "Pending," or "Under Review" - you might need to scroll down to see it. Also, I've been keeping a log of all my weekly certifications just in case there are any issues later. Hang in there - from what everyone is saying, this waiting period seems pretty normal even though it's incredibly stressful when you need the money!
