How do I check my unemployment status with NYS Department of Labor?
I filed for unemployment benefits about 10 days ago and I'm trying to figure out how to check my status. I've been logging into my.ny.gov but I'm not sure where exactly to look or what I should be seeing. The interface is kind of confusing and I want to make sure my claim is processing correctly. Can someone walk me through where to find my claim status?

Once you log into my.ny.gov, go to the "Unemployment Services" section and click on "View Payment History." You should also see a "Claim Summary" option that shows your current claim status. If your claim is still being processed, it might show as "Adjudication in Progress" or "Under Review.

•Thanks! I found the Claim Summary but it just says "Active" - does that mean it's approved or still being reviewed?

Active usually means your claim has been approved and you can start filing weekly claims. You should also check if there are any outstanding issues that need to be resolved. Look for any notifications or messages in your account that might require action from you.

•Yeah I had the same confusion when I first filed. Active is good news - it means you're cleared to start getting benefits as long as you file your weekly claims on time.

I've been trying to check mine too but the my.ny.gov site keeps timing out on me!! Anyone else having technical issues with the website? It's so frustrating when you're waiting to see if your claim went through.

•If you're having trouble getting through on the website, you can try calling the NYS Department of Labor claims line, but honestly the wait times are usually pretty long. I found this service called Claimyr (claimyr.com) that helps you get through to an actual agent faster. They have a video demo at https://youtu.be/qyftW-mnTNI that shows how it works. Saved me hours of trying to call myself.

also make sure you're filing your weekly claims even if your status shows active - thats how you actually get paid each week

•Good point, when do I need to file my first weekly claim? Is there a specific day of the week?

Weekly claims can be filed starting Sunday for the previous week. So if you're eligible this week, you'd file your first weekly claim this coming Sunday. Make sure you have your job search activities documented since you'll need to report those when you file.

•Just to add to this - you can actually file your weekly claim any day from Sunday through the following Saturday, but I'd recommend doing it early in the week to avoid any last-minute technical issues with the website. Also, keep detailed records of your job search activities because they do audit these sometimes.
