How do you check unemployment status on my.ny.gov - can't find my claim info anywhere
I filed my initial unemployment claim about 10 days ago and I'm getting super confused trying to figure out where to check my claim status. I keep logging into my.ny.gov but there's like 50 different links and I can't tell which one shows me if my claim is approved or still being processed. The confirmation email I got just had a bunch of numbers but didn't really explain what to do next. I've been trying to do my weekly claim but I don't even know if I'm supposed to yet? Can someone walk me through exactly where to look to see my unemployment status?

Once you're logged into my.ny.gov, look for the 'Unemployment Services' section on your dashboard. Click on 'Unemployment Insurance Online Services' and then 'View and Maintain Account Information.' Your claim status will show up there - it'll say something like 'Active,' 'Pending,' or 'Under Review.' If it's under adjudication, you'll see that noted too. You should also be able to see your weekly benefit amount if it's been determined.

•Thank you! I found it - mine says 'Pending Eligibility Review' which I guess means they're still processing it?

yeah the my.ny.gov site is terrible to navigate. i remember it took me forever to find anything when i first filed. once you find your claim info you can also see your payment history there if any payments have been made

If you're having trouble getting through the my.ny.gov website or need to speak with someone about your claim status, I had good luck using a service called Claimyr (claimyr.com) that helped me get through to an actual NYS Department of Labor agent. They have a video demo at https://youtu.be/qyftW-mnTNI that shows how it works. Way easier than trying to call the regular number and getting hung up on.

•Interesting - I might try that if I can't figure out what 'Pending Eligibility Review' means exactly.

Don't forget you can also check your status by calling the Tel-Service line at 1-888-581-5812, but honestly good luck getting through. I've been calling for weeks about my adjudication and it just hangs up on me every time. The website is really your best bet even though it's confusing as hell.

If your claim shows 'Pending Eligibility Review' that usually means they're verifying your work history and wages. This can take anywhere from a few days to several weeks depending on how quickly your previous employers respond to their requests. You should NOT file weekly claims until your claim is approved and shows an active status. Filing early can actually mess up your claim.

•Oh wow, good thing I asked! I was about to start filing weekly claims tomorrow. I'll wait until it changes from pending. How will I know when to start?

•You'll get a notification through the messaging system on my.ny.gov when your claim is approved, and the status will change to 'Active.' Then you can start filing your weekly claims. Make sure to file every week even if you don't get paid right away.

Just wanted to add - when you're checking your claim status, also look for any "Messages" or "To Do" items in your account. Sometimes DOL will request additional documentation (like pay stubs or separation paperwork) and if you don't respond to those requests within the timeframe, it can delay your claim even more. I missed one of those messages initially and it set me back about 3 weeks. The messages don't always show up prominently so you have to actively look for them.

•This is such important advice! I just checked and there's actually a "Messages" tab I completely missed before. Nothing there yet but I'll definitely keep an eye on it. Thanks for the heads up about the timeframes too - I had no idea missing a message could delay things by weeks. Really appreciate everyone's help navigating this confusing system!

One more tip that helped me - if you're still having trouble finding things on my.ny.gov, try using the search function at the top of the page. I just type in "unemployment claim status" or "weekly certification" and it usually takes me right to the page I need. Also, bookmark the unemployment services page once you find it because navigating back to it from the main dashboard is always a pain. The site layout changes pretty frequently and links move around, so having direct bookmarks saves a lot of time and frustration.

•Great tip about the search function! I never thought to use that. I'm definitely going to bookmark the unemployment services page once I find it again - you're so right about the site layout changing. It's frustrating how they move things around when people are already stressed about their claims. Thanks for sharing that workaround!

Another helpful thing to know - when your claim status changes from "Pending Eligibility Review" to "Active," you'll typically see your monetary determination letter become available in the "Messages" section too. This letter will show your weekly benefit amount and how many weeks of benefits you're eligible for. If there are any issues with your work history or wages that they couldn't verify, you might see an "Issue" status instead, which means you'll need to provide additional documentation or participate in a phone interview. Keep checking that Messages section daily because some of these notifications are time-sensitive!

•This is really helpful information about the monetary determination letter! I had no idea that would show up in the Messages section once my status changes. Quick question - if I do end up with an "Issue" status instead of "Active," how long do they usually give you to respond with additional documentation? And is there any way to tell what kind of documentation they might need ahead of time, or do you just have to wait for them to tell you what's missing?
