How to check unemployment status online through NYS Department of Labor - confused about my.ny.gov portal

I filed my unemployment claim last Tuesday and I'm trying to figure out how to check my status online but I'm getting confused by all the different websites. I know I need to use my.ny.gov but when I log in there's so many different sections and I can't find where it shows if my claim is approved or pending. Does anyone know exactly where to look for unemployment status? I see something about 'UI Online Services' but when I click it just takes me to another page with more links. Really need to know if my claim went through because I'm supposed to start doing weekly certifications but don't want to mess anything up.

Once you're logged into my.ny.gov, look for the 'Unemployment Services' section on your dashboard. Click on that, then select 'View and Maintain Account Information.' Your claim status should be displayed right at the top - it'll say something like 'Claim Status: Pending' or 'Claim Status: Approved.' If you see 'Adjudication in Progress' that means they're still reviewing something. You can also check your payment history and benefit amount from this same area.

Thank you! I found it - it says 'Claim Status: Pending' with effective date showing this week. Does that mean I should start filing weekly claims now or wait until it changes to approved?

You should definitely start filing your weekly claims even while your initial claim is still pending! The NYS Department of Labor requires you to file every week to maintain eligibility, even before your claim is fully processed. If you miss weeks you could lose benefits. Go to the 'Weekly Claim' section and file for any weeks since your claim started. Just make sure you're meeting the work search requirements - you need to do at least 3 job search activities per week and log them in the system.

This is exactly right. I made the mistake of waiting for approval and lost my first two weeks of benefits because I didn't file the weekly claims.

I've been having issues getting through to anyone at NYS Department of Labor about my claim status. Phone lines are always busy and the online message system never gets responses. Has anyone found a better way to actually talk to someone? I've been trying for weeks to get clarity on why my claim is still in adjudication.

Just wanted to add that you can also download the mobile app for my.ny.gov which sometimes works better than the website. I use it to check my payment dates and do my weekly claims when I'm not at my computer.

Didn't know there was an app! Is it called my.ny.gov or something else?

Yes it's just called 'my.ny.gov' in the app store. Has the same blue and white logo as the website.
