How can I check on my unemployment claim status with NYS Department of Labor?

I filed my unemployment claim about 10 days ago and I'm not sure how to check if it's been processed or what the status is. I got a confirmation number when I filed but I don't know where to go from here. I tried looking on the my.ny.gov website but it's confusing and I can't find a clear place to check my claim status. Can someone walk me through how to actually see what's happening with my claim? I'm getting worried because I haven't heard anything back yet.

You need to log into your my.ny.gov account and look for the 'Unemployment Services' section. Once you're in there, you should see your claim information including the status (pending, adjudication, approved, etc.). If it shows 'adjudication in progress' that means they're reviewing something about your claim. You can also see your payment history and any outstanding issues that need to be resolved.

Thank you! I found the unemployment services section but my claim just shows 'under review' - does that mean the same thing as adjudication?

yeah the website is terrible, took me forever to figure out how to navigate it. make sure you're checking both the claim status AND the payment status because sometimes they're in different places

If you're having trouble getting through to check your status, I had success using Claimyr (claimyr.com) to get connected directly to a NYS Department of Labor agent. They have this video demo (https://youtu.be/qyftW-mnTNI) that shows exactly how it works. Basically they call you back when an agent is available instead of you sitting on hold for hours. Really helped me get answers about my claim status when the website wasn't giving me enough detail.

How much does that cost? I'm already broke waiting for my claim to go through.

It's worth checking their site for current rates, but honestly the time saved was worth it for me. I was spending hours trying to get through on my own.

The NYS Department of Labor system is just broken. I've been waiting 3 weeks for someone to even LOOK at my claim and there's no way to get real information about what's causing the delay. They tell you to check online but the website never has actual details about WHY something is taking so long.

Don't panic yet - 10 days isn't that unusual, especially if you filed recently. The initial processing can take 2-3 weeks. Just keep checking your my.ny.gov account every few days and make sure you're filing your weekly claims even while it's processing. That's really important or you could lose benefits for those weeks.

Wait, I need to file weekly claims even before my initial claim is approved? I didn't know that!

Yes! You need to file weekly claims starting the week after you applied. If you miss weeks you usually can't go back and claim them later.
