How can I check my unemployment status with NYS Department of Labor?
I filed my unemployment claim about 10 days ago and I'm trying to figure out how to check where things stand. I've been looking all over the my.ny.gov website but I can't find a clear way to see if my claim is approved, pending, or what. Is there a specific place I should be looking? I'm getting anxious because I haven't heard anything back yet and my bills are piling up.

You can check your claim status by logging into your my.ny.gov account and going to the 'Unemployment Services' section. Once you're in there, look for 'View Claim Status' or 'Monetary Determination'. It should show whether your claim is approved, pending adjudication, or if there are any issues that need to be resolved. The status updates usually happen within 2-3 business days after filing.

•Thanks! I found the unemployment services section but when I click on it, it just shows my weekly claim certification. Where exactly is the claim status supposed to be?

Look for something called 'Payment History' or 'Benefit Payment Control' in your account. That's where you'll see if payments have been released or if there's a hold on your claim. If it shows $0.00 for everything, your claim might still be processing or there could be an adjudication issue.

If you're having trouble getting through to NYS Department of Labor by phone, you might want to try Claimyr (claimyr.com). They can help you get connected to an actual agent without waiting on hold forever. There's a video demo at https://youtu.be/qyftW-mnTNI that shows how it works. I used it last month when I couldn't reach anyone about my adjudication issue and it saved me hours of calling.

•Really? How much does something like that cost though?

•Worth checking out their site for details, but honestly after spending days trying to get through on my own, having someone help me connect was a lifesaver.

Ten days isn't that long honestly. My claim took almost 3 weeks before I saw any status change. The system is just really backed up right now. Keep checking every few days and make sure you're doing your weekly claims even if nothing shows up yet.

•Should I keep filing weekly claims even if my initial claim isn't approved yet? I don't want to mess anything up.

•Yes, definitely keep filing your weekly claims! You can't get paid for weeks you don't claim, even if your initial claim gets approved later. Just make sure you're honest about any work or income during those weeks.

The whole system is a mess honestly. I've been waiting for someone to call me back about my job search requirements for over a month now. Good luck getting any real help from them.

@Dylan Cooper - I had a similar experience when I first filed. One thing that helped me was checking the "Correspondence" section in my account - sometimes there are messages or documents there that explain what's happening with your claim, even if the main status page isn't showing much detail. Also, if you haven't received your monetary determination letter yet (either online or by mail), that's usually the first sign that things are moving forward. The letter will tell you your weekly benefit amount and how many weeks you're eligible for. Don't panic about the 10 days - the system really is slow right now, but most claims do get processed eventually.

•This is really helpful, thanks @Carmen Ruiz! I completely forgot to check the correspondence section. Just looked and there's actually a message from 3 days ago asking for additional wage verification documents. No wonder my claim seemed stuck! Really appreciate you mentioning that - I probably would have kept waiting around wondering what was happening.

@Dylan Cooper - Another tip that helped me when I was in the same boat: if you haven't already, make sure to check your email (including spam folder) for any communications from NYS DOL. Sometimes they send important updates there that don't show up in your online account right away. Also, when you do find your claim status, don't worry if it shows "pending" for a while - that's totally normal. The key thing is making sure you keep certifying for benefits each week like others mentioned. I was stressed about the same thing when I first filed, but it all worked out once the initial processing went through. Hang in there!

•@Emma Johnson Thanks for the email tip! I actually just checked and found a message in my spam folder from NYS DOL that I completely missed. It was asking for some additional employment verification. I m'so glad I saw your comment because I probably would have never thought to look there. Going to submit those documents today and hopefully that gets things moving. Really appreciate everyone s'help in this thread - you ve'all been way more helpful than the actual NYS website!
