How to check unemployment claim status on NYS Department of Labor website?
I'm totally confused about how to check my unemployment status online. I filed my initial claim about 10 days ago and haven't heard anything back from NYS Department of Labor. I know there's supposed to be some website where I can see what's going on but I can't figure out how to navigate it. Is it the my.ny.gov site? Do I need a separate login? Also not sure if I should be filing weekly claims already or waiting for approval first. Any help would be appreciated!

Yes, you need to go to my.ny.gov and create an account if you haven't already. Once you're logged in, look for the 'Unemployment Services' section. Your claim status will show there - it might say 'pending' or 'adjudication in progress' while they review your application. You should start filing weekly claims immediately even if your initial claim isn't approved yet, otherwise you could lose benefits for those weeks.

•Thank you! I found the unemployment section but it's showing 'adjudication in progress' - what does that mean exactly?

•Adjudication means they're reviewing something about your claim - could be verifying your work history, checking why you left your job, or confirming your identity. It's normal but can take 2-4 weeks sometimes.

You need to log into your my.ny.gov account and look for the 'Unemployment Services' section. Once you're in there, click on 'View Payment History' and 'Claim Summary' to see your current status. If your claim is still processing, it will show as 'pending' or 'under review' with the date you filed.

•Thanks! I found the unemployment services section but I only see 'File Weekly Claim' as an option. Should I be seeing more tabs or links?

10 days isn't that long honestly. My claim took almost 3 weeks before I heard anything back from NYS Department of Labor. The system is pretty backed up right now. As long as you got the confirmation email you should be fine, just keep checking every few days.

If you're having trouble getting through to check your status by phone, I had luck using Claimyr to connect with an actual NYS Department of Labor agent. They have a service at claimyr.com that helps you get through the phone lines. There's a video demo at https://youtu.be/qyftW-mnTNI that shows how it works. Really helped when I was stuck in adjudication for weeks and needed answers.

•Is that service legit? I'm desperate to talk to someone at NYS Department of Labor but don't want to get scammed.

•Yeah it's real, they just help you get connected faster instead of sitting on hold for hours. Saved me so much time when I was freaking out about my claim status.

SAME THING happened to me last month!!! I was freaking out because I couldn't find any information about my claim status anywhere on the website. Turns out there was an issue with my initial application that I didn't even know about. I spent HOURS trying to get through to someone on the phone.

•Oh no, what kind of issue was it? How did you find out about it?

•This is exactly why it's important to check the 'Messages' section in your account too. NYS Department of Labor will send notifications there if they need additional documentation or if there are any issues with your claim.

If you're having trouble getting through to NYS Department of Labor by phone, I recently discovered this service called Claimyr that helps you get connected to an actual agent. You can check it out at claimyr.com - they have a video demo at https://youtu.be/qyftW-mnTNI that shows how it works. It was super helpful when I needed to check on my adjudication status and couldn't get through the regular phone lines.

•Interesting, I've never heard of that. Did it actually work for you?

•Yeah it did! I was able to talk to someone within like 20 minutes instead of spending all day calling and getting hung up on.

The NYS Department of Labor system is so broken. Half the time the website doesn't even load properly and when you call they just hang up on you after making you wait 2 hours. I've been trying to check my claim for 3 weeks and still don't know what's happening with my benefits!

•I feel you - the system is definitely overwhelmed. But keep trying the online portal, it's usually more reliable than calling.

also make sure you're filing your weekly claims even if your initial claim is still pending! i made that mistake and it delayed everything even more

•Wait really? I thought I had to wait until my claim was approved before filing weekly claims?

•No, you should definitely start filing your weekly claims right away. Even if your initial claim is still being processed, you need to establish that you're actively claiming benefits for each week you're unemployed.

I just went through this same process last month! Here's what helped me: Once you're logged into my.ny.gov, look for the "Unemployment Services" section, then click on "UI Online Services." From there you should see options like "Claim Summary" and "Payment History" - that's where your status will show up. Mine showed "Pending - Adjudication" for about 2 weeks before it got approved. And yes, definitely start filing your weekly claims right away even while it's pending - you can't go back and claim those weeks later if you miss them. The whole process is frustrating but hang in there!

•This is super helpful! I just created my my.ny.gov account and found the UI Online Services section. My claim is also showing "Pending - Adjudication" so it's reassuring to know that's normal. Quick question - when you were filing your weekly claims during the pending period, did you have to answer different questions or was it the same process as after approval?

•@Oliver Becker Thanks for the detailed breakdown! I m'in the exact same boat right now - filed about a week ago and it s'showing Pending "- Adjudication on" my account. I was getting worried that something was wrong but it sounds like this is totally normal. One thing I m'confused about though - when I go to file my weekly claim, it asks if I m'able "and available for work but" since my initial claim isn t'approved yet, should I still be answering yes to that? I don t'want to mess anything up by giving the wrong response during this pending period.
