Was a bit nervous or untrusting at first, but my calls went thru. First time the wait was a bit long but their customer chat line on their page was helpful and put me at ease that I would receive my call. NY unemployment denied after reapplying - apparently didn't earn enough in my base quarters?

Just got denied for my regular unemployment after reapplying last month. They're saying I don't have enough wages in my base period - something about needing over $4,600 in quarterly earnings. I was totally confused because I thought they were just removing the extra federal money, not cutting off my regular benefits too. I've been trying to call the unemployment office for three days straight but can't get through to anyone. The website just shows my claim as 'inactive' with no explanation. Has anyone dealt with this? What number should I actually call to get this fixed?

nobody seems to be mentioning that there might be a different issue here - sometimes people get cut off because of identity verification problems, not base period problems. Make sure when you talk to someone you ask if there are ANY holds on your account, not just wage issues.

How would I know if it's an identity issue? The website just says my claim is inactive.

You wouldn't know unless you talk to someone. The website is useless for showing the actual problem. Could be identity verification, could be wage base period, could be a dozen other things. You need to get a human on the phone.

Need a working number for NY unemployment to report new job - worried about this week's payment

I started a new job last week and tried to report it through the online system. But when I selected that I "went back to work" option, now it's showing a break in claim. I'm worried I won't get paid for this week since I only worked 2 days at my new job! Does anyone have a working phone number to reach someone at unemployment? I've been trying for 3 days and keep getting disconnected or put on hold forever. Need to know if I'll still get paid for the days I wasn't working this week or if I messed everything up by clicking that option.

FYI going back to work doesn't ALWAYS auto-stop your benefits. My friend just put in the hours he worked and still got partial benefits for that week. The system is just super inconsistent.

Depends if you click "returned to work" vs just reporting hours worked. Two different things in the system but they don't explain that clearly.

Filed new claim but ny unemployment website won't let me certify weekly benefits

Just started a new unemployment claim about 10 days ago. The rep on the phone specifically told me to start claiming my weekly benefits this past Sunday. When I tried logging in on Sunday, the system kept giving me error messages saying my claim wasn't active yet. Tried again today (Tuesday) and still getting the same error. The website just loops me back to the login page whenever I try to certify. Already spent 3 hours trying to get someone on the phone with no luck. Anyone know what I'm supposed to do now? My rent is due next week and I'm seriously stressing out.

did u verify ur identity yet? they might be waiting for u to do id.me verification. they dont tell u this but sometimes u cant certify until that's done

the website is trash. call the automated phone system for claiming weekly benefits: 1-888-581-5812. sometimes the phone system works when the website doesn't.

Specialist had to cancel my new claim to release back pay for my ny unemployment

Finally got through to someone who could help me with my payments issue. Had a call with a rep today who explained they needed to 'invalidate' my claim from 10/11 to free up the back payments from 7/15 to 10/2. Apparently this is the only way to get those older payments processed. She said after my backpay gets processed, they'll reinstate my newer claim. Just a heads up to anyone in a similar situation - the specialist mentioned I should expect to wait around 12 weeks for the new claim to be processed once they reinstate it. The unemployment system is so confusing sometimes.

One thing I learned from my nightmare with unemployment: WRITE DOWN NAMES AND ID NUMBERS of every person you talk to!!! I had one agent tell me they fixed my claim, but they didn't. When I called back, no record of the call existed. Always always get their ID number.

How long after ID.me verification can you file new NY unemployment claim?

I'm trying to help my aunt file a new unemployment claim. She completed the ID.me verification process last week and got successfully verified during her video call with the representative. However, when I tried to fill out her new application on the DOL website afterward, the system wouldn't let me proceed. I've heard there might be a waiting period of around two weeks after verification before you can submit a new claim? Does anyone know if this is correct or how long we should wait? This is her first time filing in NY and we're not sure about the next steps after ID.me. Any information would be really helpful!

Just as an FYI for everyone on here - if you ever have issues with ID.me, don't bother calling NYSDOL. ID.me is a separate company and NYSDOL agents will just tell you to contact them directly. Learned this the hard way after wasting 2hrs on hold.
