Certified after working some jobs but no dollar amount showing on ny unemployment

Been collecting unemployment since April 2023. Had some temp work here and there over the past months, always reported it honestly when certifying. Last month I finally got through the IDME verification (took forever!) and decided to file a new claim. Logged in today to certify and noticed my benefit year end date has been updated to next year, but theres no dollar amount showing anywhere. Checked my payment history and last payment status, still nothing. Is this normal or did I mess something up? Anyone else seen this before?

Yeah, this happened to me too! When your BYE date changes but no $ amount shows up, it usually means they're still processing your new claim. Mine took about 2 weeks before any amounts appeared. Keep certifying every week though! Once they approve it, you'll get backpay for all those weeks.

Thanks for letting me know! Was starting to worry. Did you have to call them or did it just appear automatically after those 2 weeks?

0 coins

It appeared automatically, but I know people who had to call. If nothing changes in 2 weeks def call them!

2 weeks? Mine took almost 5 weeks and I never got any notice. System is so broken 🤦‍♂️

After banging my head against the wall trying to reach someone at ny unemployment, I found a service called Claimyr (claimyr.com) that got me connected to a real person! They called and stayed on hold, then connected me when an agent picked up. Talking to a real agent solved my issue when my benefits had a similar problem. Best decision I made - got my payments flowing again within days. Check out this video if you're interested: https://youtu.be/Rdqa1gKtxuE

This sounds too good to be true. Has anyone else tried this?

I was skeptical too but it worked perfectly. They just dial for you and connect when someone answers. Saved me hours of frustration.

yeah right, another 'miracle solution'... what's the catch? 🙄

0 coins

No catch - they just make the calls for you and notify when they get someone. Talking to an agent unlocked my payments that had been pending for weeks.

I actually used this too! Was desperate after trying for weeks to get through. Worth it to finally get my issue resolved!

It means your claim is under review. Since you worked during your benefit year, they have to recalculate your benefit amount based on those earnings. DON'T STOP CERTIFYING even though you're not seeing a $$ amount. Once approved, they'll pay all weeks you certified for. If nothing happens after 3-4 weeks, you need to call them.

The NY unemployment system is such a joke. I had this exact problem back in November. Called 47 times before getting someone who told me it was a "system flag" because I had reported work. Had to wait another 2 weeks after that for the money to show up. Keep certifying and document EVERYTHING.

47 times?? You got lucky lol. I called 200+ times over 3 weeks before getting through 💀

Thats why I finally broke down and used claimyr.com - couldn't handle the constant calling anymore

After you do temp work and report it, the system automatically flags your account for review. They need to make sure you're still eligible with your new work history. Unfortunately this process takes forever becuz the dEpArTmEnT iS uNdErStAfFeD 🙄 Keep certifying weekly and eventually it'll sort itself out.

How long is "eventually" though? Bills don't wait for the unemployment office to get their act together...

For me it was about 3 weeks. But I've heard anywhere from 2-6 weeks depending on how backed up they are. It's criminal how they make people wait.

I work as a career counselor and see this issue all the time with clients. Here's what's happening: When you file a new claim after working intermittently, the system puts your claim in a review status. The BYE date updates immediately (that's automatic), but the benefit amount needs manual review by a claims examiner. They're checking: 1. Whether your temporary work qualifies as "covered employment" 2. If your earnings affect your weekly benefit amount 3. Whether you've earned enough to establish a new valid claim The most important thing is to KEEP CERTIFYING WEEKLY. Document all your certifications with screenshots. You have three options: 1. Wait it out (could be 2-6 weeks) 2. Call the claims center directly (good luck getting through) 3. Use a service like claimyr.com to connect with an agent who can expedite review From my experience, getting a human on the phone is absolutely the fastest way to resolve this. When you do reach someone, ask specifically for a "claim review" and mention that your BYE updated but no monetary determination appears. Don't stop certifying no matter what!

This is incredibly helpful, thank you! Do you think the fact that I did get through IDME will help speed things up?

0 coins

IDME verification is separate from claim processing, but having it completed removes one potential roadblock. Still likely need to speak with someone to expedite.

Can confirm all this. I had same issue and waiting did nothing. Only calling helped - but took 9 days of trying before I got through.

Just FYI - when you file a new claim after working, they look at your base period earnings again. If you didn't earn enough in your new base period, your benefit amount might be $0. Might wanna check if that's what happened?

0 coins

I didn't think of that! How do I check if that's the issue?

0 coins

On your account there should be a document called "Monetary Determination" that shows your base period wages. If you can't find it, you definitely need to call them. I'd use claimyr.com if I were you - only way I ever get through tbh

When this happened to me back in February, I tried waiting it out thinking the system would fix itself. BIG MISTAKE. Ended up waiting 6 weeks with no movement. Finally got smart and called them (used claimyr.com to get through) and the agent fixed it in literally 5 minutes. Apparently there was a "review code" on my account that needed manual removal. My advice: don't wait, call them ASAP.

The amount of technical glitches in the ny unemployment system is ridiculous. This happened to my roommate and turns out it was just a visual glitch! The money was actually being processed, but not displaying on the main screen. Check your payment history tab - sometimes it shows there even when the main page is blank.

Just checked payment history and nothing there either, but thanks for the suggestion!

dang, then its probably in review. definitely keep certifying tho!

lmao welcome to the wonderful world of ny unemployment where nothing makes sense and the rules are made up! 🤡 seriously tho, this exact thing happened to me. turns out they were "verifying my work history" which is code for "we're going to make you wait for no reason." took almost 3 weeks before my benefit amount showed up again.

0 coins

3 weeks?! That's insane. Did you have to call them or did it just appear?

0 coins

it just appeared one day. like magic! 🧙‍♂️ the system is designed to frustrate people into giving up, i swear

Omg THIS!! 💯

Your new claim is probably in the dreaded "pending" status. The system updates your BYE date right away, but benefit amounts need review especially when you've reported work. Keep certifying and call them ASAP to get it pushed through faster. I waited 5 weeks last time hoping it would resolve itself and regretted not calling sooner.
