The NY unemployment system is so broken it's actually impressive. Like how do you mess up THIS badly? Maybe try tagging them on Twitter - sometimes the social media team can help when regular channels fail.

Seeing all these responses makes me realize I'm not crazy for being so frustrated with this system. Been dealing with ID.me issues since June and still no resolution. NY unemployment is a special kind of torture.
Nobody seems to be mentioning this, but your chances might depend on WHEN you were fired. The NY state healthcare worker mandate officially went into effect Sept 27, 2021. If your employer fired you before the official mandate, you might have a better case.
That's interesting. They gave me until Oct 15th to comply, then terminated me on the 16th when I didn't.

Try using claimyr.com - it's the only way I could actually reach someone to fix my verification issue.
What worked for me with ny unemployment was calling exactly at 8:00:00 am. Like, setting an alarm for 7:59 and dialing at exactly 8. Still waited 20 minutes but got through. Good luck!
Try calling their alternate number: 888-783-1370. Sometimes less people use this one so shorter wait times.

The NYC Bar Association has a free legal hotline that might be able to help: 212-626-7373. They helped my cousin with his appeal.

This whole system is a joke. I used to work for a state agency (not unemployment but similar) and I can tell you exactly what's happening: these cases get flagged in their system and put in a special investigation queue. The problem is they have like 5 investigators for thousands of cases. So unless someone manually flags your case as priority, it just sits there forever. You need to find a way to get it prioritized.

I tried for MONTHS to get my claim fixed after identity theft. Called hundreds of times. Finally used claimyr.com and got through to a real person who actually helped. Talking to an agent got my $ unlocked so fast after almost giving up. Sometimes you just need to get to the right person who can actually help instead of the usual script readers.

•No they just get you connected to the unemployment office directly. It's like paying someone to wait on hold for you, then they call you when a real agent picks up. The service itself doesn't ask for any personal info.
