Certified but no payment in my account - need ny unemployment phone number asap

Just certified for my weekly benefits on Sunday as usual, but didn't get my payment deposited today like I normally do. The website shows I successfully certified but there's no payment status and nothing hit my bank account. This has never happened before in the 4 months I've been on unemployment. I'm starting to worry because I have rent due this friday and I'm counting on this money. Does anyone know the direct number to call? I had it saved somewhere but can't find it now. Getting really stressed out about this.

The main NY unemployment phone number is 1-888-209-8124. Their hours are 8am to 6pm Monday through Friday. Heads up though - be prepared to wait foreverrrr. I called last week and was on hold for almost 2 hours before someone picked up.

Thank you! Gonna try calling tomorrow morning. Did you have any luck when you finally got through to someone?

Yeah the agent was actually pretty helpful once I got someone. Just make sure you have your NY.gov ID and all your claim info ready when they answer!

Good luck getting through lmao. That number is basically useless. I tried calling 47 times last month and never got past the automated system 🤡

I had this exact same problem last month! I was freaking out because my rent was due too. After spending days trying to call that damn number I found this service called Claimyr (claimyr.com) that calls for you and then connects you when a real person picks up. Talking to an agent got my $ unlocked so fast and they backpaid me too. It was the only way I could talk to a live agent. Check out their explainer vid: https://youtu.be/Rdqa1gKtxuE

wait hold up - does this actually work or is it just the usual BS? i've wasted so much time on hold i'm tempted to try anything at this point

It 100% worked for me. I was skeptical too but after three days of not getting through on my own I was desperate. The service called for me and I got connected to someone in about 45 mins instead of having to sit there myself listening to that awful hold music 😫

sounds like one of those ads that pops up everywhere. anyone ACTUALLY try this? seems too good to be true tbh

Yeah I get why it sounds sketchy but it's real. They just dial for you and stay on hold. The automation calls you when they get a real person. Was totally worth it for me since I got all my back pay sorted in one call.

Hmm might have to try this. I've literally wasted my entire day calling and getting nowhere 😭

Sometimes there's a processing delay. Mine came a day late last week, but I didn't call. If it doesn't show up by tomorrow, then start worrying. The system is so backed up right now.

Check your payment history section on the website. Sometimes it says "pending" there before it gets released to your bank. Could just be a 24-hour delay with the bank processing. The ny unemployment system is always glitching out with payments right now.

I just checked and there's nothing in payment history for this week... that's what's worrying me. Every other week shows the payment date and amount.

Oof that's not good. Definitely call them tomorrow first thing. Make sure you're calling right when they open at 8am.

This happened to me THREE times in the past year. The NY unemployment system is such a disaster. Here's what I learned: First, double-check that you answered all the weekly certification questions correctly. One wrong answer can put a hold on your payment. Second, check if your benefit year expired. If it's been about a year since you first applied, the system might have automatically stopped payments even if you have weeks remaining. Third, there might be a quarterly review happening. They do this sometimes to recheck your eligibility. Fourth, bank holidays can delay payments by a day or two. Finally, if none of that applies, you NEED to call them. The website is useless for solving real problems. I spent weeks trying to get through on the regular number with no luck. I finally used claimyr.com which got me through to a real person who fixed it in minutes. The payments that had been stuck for weeks suddenly appeared in my account the next day. Good luck! The system is broken but don't give up!

Thank you for all this info! I've been claiming for less than a year so it's not the benefit year thing. And I answered all questions the same as always. No bank holidays either... guess I need to call

The quarterly review thing is real! That's exactly what happened to me too. They never tell you about it

just fyi I called today and they said there's a system problem affecting some payments this week. The lady told me they're working on it and payments should go out in 48 hours. might be what happened to yours too

Really? That would be such a relief if true! Did they say how widespread the issue is?

She didn't say specifics but mentioned it was affecting "a lot of people" who certified on Sunday. Just be prepared to wait if you call... took me 1.5 hrs to get someone

Did you check if your benefit year ended? If it did, you have to reapply even if you have money left in your account. They don't make this clear AT ALL and I lost 3 weeks of benefits before figuring it out.

The whole ny unemployment system is designed to make us give up 🤬 I swear they make it confusing and difficult on purpose so people stop claiming. Like why cant they just have a functioning website and phone system like every other modern organization??

Preach! 👏 I'm convinced it's on purpose. They're running on tech from 1995

The system was actually built in the 1970s using COBOL programming language and they've just been patching it ever since. No joke. Look it up.

omg that explains so much! wild that our financial survival depends on tech older than most of us 💀

When I had this problem calling the regular number was useless. Busy signals for days. Try this special number: 1-877-221-1634. It's supposed to be for hearing impaired but they'll help anyone. Way shorter wait times.

This doesn't work anymore. They caught on and now they just transfer you to the main line if you're not actually hearing impaired.

If your payment doesn't come through, I HIGHLY recommend using claimyr.com to get through to an agent. I wasted three weeks trying to call myself before I found them. They call and wait on hold for you, then connect you when a real person answers. Talking to a live agent got my money released same day - best money I've ever spent to finally get my benefits paid quickly. I was so relieved I actually cried when the money hit my account.

another day, another company promising to fix the unfixable unemployment system lol... has anyone else actually tried this?

I used it last month when my account got randomly locked. Worked exactly as advertised. Got through to someone in about an hour instead of spending all day calling.

I get the skepticism! I felt the same way. But after calling 50+ times myself over three days, I was desperate. The service just automates the calling and waiting on hold part. When they get someone on the line, they call you. Saved me literally days of frustration.

Quick question - did you get a notification saying your certification was accepted? Sometimes the website will let you go through the motions but there's an error at the end.

0 coins

-

Connor O'Neill

Yeah it showed the green checkmark and said "Your certification has been submitted" like normal

I'm in the same boat!! Certified Sunday and no money today. Usually hits my account by 9am without fail. Something is definitely up with the system this week.

At least I'm not alone! Let me know if yours shows up tomorrow maybe?

Will do. If not im gonna have to call, which is like my worst nightmare lol. Been on unemployment since August and this is the first time it's happened.

Sometimes the labor department puts random holds on accounts for "verification" and doesn't even notify you. Happened to me twice. Only way to fix is calling... good luck with that 😑
