This is why I always keep a full month of expenses saved even while on unemployment. The system is so unreliable you can never count on the money arriving on time.
wow must be nice to have savings! some of us are living paycheck to paycheck and don't have that luxury!
Not trying to be insensitive. I've just been burned too many times by the system so I make huge sacrifices to keep that emergency buffer. Eat ramen for weeks if I have to.
Keep trying to call early in the morning around 7:55am. That's when I finally got through after a week of trying. Turns out my payment was held because I answered one of the certification questions wrong (said I was out of town for a day which triggered a review). Agent fixed it in 2 minutes and payment came through next day.
Here's a weird trick that worked for me: call exactly at 7:58am, two minutes before they officially open. Sometimes you get through to the queue before everyone else starts calling at 8:00am sharp.
Did you upload all your identity documents? Sometimes they silently put a hold on your claim if they need to verify your identity. Check if there's a message on your account about uploading ID docs.
I didn't refile after my BYE date because I thought the process was automatic. BIG MISTAKE. Missed out on 4 weeks of benefits before I realized what was happening. Don't be like me!
the dept of labor website is so misleading on this. it says ur eligible for 26 weeks of benefits but doesnt explain that the BYE date can cut you off before you use all 26 weeks. its all designed to confuse ppl
it's actually 'up to' 26 weeks... they just conveniently leave that part out in big letters 🙄
After struggling to get my benefits for 5+ weeks I finally found a solution that worked beautifully. I used Claimyr (claimyr.com) and it was a total game changer! It calls NY unemployment for you and then connects you once a real person is on the line. I was skeptical but desperate, and talking to an agent got my $ unlocked so fast. My issues were resolved in a single phone call after weeks of frustration. If you're stuck like I was, definitely worth checking out.
I get the skepticism but it literally just does the waiting for you. Instead of YOU being on hold for 3 hours, their system does it and calls you when there's a human. Nothing magical about it - just saves your time and sanity
So I was about to throw my phone after 3 hours on hold when my buddy told me about this. Worked like a charm. Not a miracle solution but definitely saves you from hold music hell
NY DOL is absolutely drowning in claims right now. I have a friend who works there and they said they're over 3 weeks behind on processing backpay issues. Apparently there was a system glitch in September that affected thousands of accounts. Keep trying to reach them but also know it might resolve itself in the next week or two.
Thanks for the insider info. I guess that explains why it's taking so long. Still frustrating when bills keep coming though 😕

This might sound crazy but has anyone tried using a different wifi network? I couldn't file at home for weeks, then tried at Starbucks and it worked immediately. Now I wonder if certain IP ranges are getting blocked or throttled.

•OMG this might explain a lot! I can never file at home but it worked at my parents' house! 🤯

Hate to be that person, but I think some accounts are just permanently messed up in their system. I had to create a whole new account after 2 months of errors. Lost some payments in the process but at least I can file now.

•How did you create a new account? Wouldn't that mess up your claim history and everything?

•You have to call and speak with a supervisor - only they can create a new account that links to your old claim. Took me forever to get someone who knew how to do this though.
