Was a bit nervous or untrusting at first, but my calls went thru. First time the wait was a bit long but their customer chat line on their page was helpful and put me at ease that I would receive my call. Unpopular opinion but you might just need to wait it out. My backpay randomly appeared after 7 weeks with no warning or explanation. The system is working through a HUGE backlog.
Watch out - if they coded your claim wrong initially, they might not even know you're eligible for those earlier weeks. I had to literally explain to the agent that I had been laid off in March not May because someone entered my info wrong.
How would I know if they coded my claim wrong? Is there somewhere I can see that info?
On your payment history page, check the "effective date" of your claim. That should match the date you became unemployed. If it doesn't, that's your problem right there.

try contacting ur state assembly person or senator! i had the same issue last month and couldn't get thru on the phone no matter what. emailed my assembly person and they have contacts at DOL who fixed it in 3 days. worth a shot!

has anyone actually received a paper check who can confirm what the envelope looks like? i think mine might have been stolen from my mailbox 😭
Plain white envelope with NY state return address. Nothing flashy or obvious that it's a check inside. Easy to miss!

The whole NY unemployment system is designed to be confusing so people give up on getting what they're owed. Been dealing with them for years and it never gets better no matter who's in charge.

Honestly from what I understand the whole unemployment tax refund thing is still a mess. Some people got their adjusted refunds automatically, some got separate checks, some had to amend returns... there's no consistency AT ALL with how NY is handling it
this makes me feel slightly better that it's not just me dealing with this chaos

I've been dealing with NY unemployment for 18 months and here's what I can tell u: DOCUMENT EVERYTHING. Take screenshots of your payment history before and after the negative amount. Save any emails or messages. Write down names of anyone you speak to. You'll need all this if you have to appeal.

just throwing this out there but have u moved recently? sometimes when your address changes they can flag your account for verification and hold payments
