How long before Money Network debit card arrives after EDD claim approval?
I finally got my unemployment claim approved last Friday (after 3 weeks of waiting!!), but my online account says the payment has been issued... just not to me 😫 My question is how long does it typically take to receive the Money Network debit card in the mail? I selected the debit card option instead of direct deposit when I filed my claim. I'm getting worried because my bills are coming due soon and I really need this money. Does EDD send any kind of tracking info or do I just have to keep checking my mailbox? Anyone know if there's a way to see if it's actually been mailed out yet?

mine took 10 days to come in the mail

•Thanks! Was that 10 business days or calendar days? Did you get any kind of notification when it shipped?

The Money Network debit card typically arrives 7-10 business days after your first payment is issued. There's no tracking number provided unfortunately. If it's been more than 10 business days, you should contact Bank of America (who issues the cards) at 1-866-692-9374 to check on status. They're usually better to reach than EDD. One thing to note - they don't automatically send a new card if you've had one before (even years ago). If you previously had an EDD debit card, they'll load funds onto that old card. If you no longer have it, you'll need to request a replacement.

•Oh that's super helpful, thank you! It's my first time on unemployment so I definitely don't have an old card. It's only been 4 business days since approval so I guess I need to be patient... which is hard when you're broke! 😅

Better switch to direct deposit asap!!! The cards are nothing but trouble. Mine got lost in the mail twice and then got frozen for "suspicious activity" when I finally got it. Such a headache

•I agree - direct deposit is much more reliable. You can switch to direct deposit through your UI Online account under "Payment Methods." Once you have the card though, you can transfer the money to your bank account through the Money Network app.

OMG I just went thru this exact same thing!!! It took exactly 8 days to get my card (that was including weekend days). But here's the stupid thing - they don't tell you that the envelope looks like junk mail! It came in this plain white envelope that I almost threw away. No EDD markings or anything obvious. So check your mail CAREFULLY.

•Thanks for the warning! I'll make sure to check every piece of mail carefully. Did you have to activate it or anything when it arrived?

•Yes you have to call the number on the sticker and activate it. Have your claim info handy when you call. And set up the Money Network app asap - it's way easier to check your balance that way.

If you need to contact EDD about your card not arriving (if it's been more than 10 business days), good luck getting through on the phone lines. I spent 3 weeks trying to reach someone about my lost card. I finally used a service called Claimyr (claimyr.com) that got me connected to an EDD rep within 15 minutes! They have a video showing how it works: https://youtu.be/JmuwXR7HA10?si=TSwYbu_GOwYzt9km Once I got through, the rep was able to verify my card had been mailed and gave me the date it was sent out. When it still didn't arrive after 15 days, I called Bank of America directly to request a replacement.

•is that service legit?? sounds sketchy to pay someone just to make a phone call for you

•I'll definitely check that out if my card doesn't arrive in the next week! Thanks for the suggestion. The EDD phone lines are impossible.

I've been working in the HR department for 12 years and have helped many employees navigate unemployment. Here's what you need to know about the Money Network debit cards: 1. Standard delivery time: 7-10 business days after your first payment is issued 2. The envelope is very plain with no obvious EDD markings 3. Cards are mailed from Ohio, not California 4. There is no tracking information provided 5. You can check if it was mailed by calling Bank of America EDD customer service at 1-866-692-9374 If 10 business days have passed, request an expedited replacement card from Bank of America. They can send one via express mail in 3-5 business days. As others have mentioned, setting up direct deposit for future payments is recommended. You can do this through your UI Online account even while waiting for your card.

•Thank you so much for this detailed information! I had no idea the cards come from Ohio - that explains why it might take longer. I'll definitely set up direct deposit for future payments once I get access to my account. Really appreciate your help!

One additional tip: When you do get your card, I highly recommend immediately setting up the Money Network mobile app. You can transfer funds from the card to your bank account without fees, set up alerts for deposits, and view your transaction history. Much easier than calling the automated system every time.

•The app is garbage though, crashes half the time and sometimes shows wrong balances. Better to just transfer everything to your bank asap

•Oh that's concerning! I did just move about 4 months ago, but I'm sure I put my current address on the application. Is there a way to check what address Bank of America has on file before the card arrives?

Has anyone else had their card show up but with no money on it? That happened to my roommate and it turned out EDD had put a stop payment on it for some identity verification thing they never told him about. Make sure you keep checking your UI Online account for any notices even while you're waiting for the card!

•Thanks for the warning! I've been checking my UI Online account daily. So far it still says "paid" for my first two weeks, so hopefully that means the money is actually on the card. This system is so stressful!

does anybody know if you can pick up the card in person somewhere instead of waiting for mail??? i need my money NOW

•Unfortunately, there's no option to pick up the card in person. The cards are issued by Bank of America through their EDD contract, but they're produced and mailed from a centralized facility out of state. Even local Bank of America branches can't access or provide EDD debit cards. Your only options are to wait for standard delivery or request expedited shipping for a replacement card if your original hasn't arrived within the expected timeframe.

Just wanted to share my recent experience to help ease your anxiety! I got my claim approved about 2 weeks ago and was in the exact same boat - constantly checking my mailbox and worrying about bills. My card arrived on day 9 (business days) in a super plain white envelope that I almost missed. A few things that might help while you wait: - Call Bank of America EDD at 1-866-692-9374 to confirm your mailing address is correct (learned this from reading other posts!) - Set up direct deposit for future payments through your UI Online account - you can do this now even while waiting for the card - Keep checking your UI Online account for any notices or holds The waiting is the worst part, but hang in there! Based on everyone's experiences here, you should have it within the next few days. And definitely don't throw away any plain envelopes - mine literally looked like junk mail.

•This is exactly what I needed to hear! Thank you so much for sharing your timeline - knowing it came on day 9 gives me hope since I'm only on day 4. I'm definitely going to call Bank of America tomorrow to double-check my address just to be safe. And you're right about the plain envelope thing - I'll be extra careful not to toss anything! Really appreciate you taking the time to share your experience, it helps a lot when you're stressed about money 🙏

I'm in a similar situation - got approved 6 days ago and still anxiously checking the mailbox every day! Reading through everyone's experiences here has been really helpful. I had no idea about the plain envelope thing or that the cards come from Ohio. Quick question for those who've been through this - when you activate the card, is the money immediately available or is there another waiting period? I'm trying to plan when I can actually pay my rent! Also, has anyone had issues with ATM withdrawals or are there daily limits I should know about? Thanks to everyone sharing their timelines and tips - this community is a lifesaver when EDD's customer service is impossible to reach!

•Great questions! When you activate the card, the money is available immediately - no additional waiting period. You can use it right away at ATMs or for purchases. As for limits, there are daily withdrawal limits (I think it's $1,000 per day at ATMs, but you can check the exact amount when you get your card). You can also transfer money to your bank account through the Money Network app without fees, which might be easier for paying rent if you need the full amount at once. The activation process is pretty quick too - just call the number on the sticker on the card and follow the prompts. Make sure to have your SSN and claim info handy. Hang in there, you're more than halfway through the waiting period!

Just got my card today after 8 business days! For anyone still waiting, here's what I wish I had known: the envelope is SO plain it literally looks like spam mail - no EDD logo or anything. I almost tossed it! Also, make sure to activate it right away because there's a time limit (30 days I think). The activation was super quick, just needed my SSN and claim number. Money was available immediately after activation. Definitely download the Money Network app too - way easier than calling to check your balance. Hang in there everyone, it does come!

•Yeah, it's pretty consistent from what I'm seeing in all these responses! I'm on day 5 now so hopefully I'll have mine by early next week. It's reassuring to see that most people are getting theirs within that 7-10 business day window, even if it feels like forever when you're waiting for it. At least now I know to look out for that plain white envelope and not accidentally throw it away!

Just wanted to add my experience since I went through this nightmare last year. My card took 12 business days to arrive, which was longer than the typical 7-10 days everyone mentions. Turns out there was a mail delay in my area that week. Pro tip: if you're really stressed about timing, you can call Bank of America EDD customer service and they can tell you the exact date your card was mailed. They won't give you tracking info (because there isn't any), but at least you'll know it's actually in the mail system. Also, I learned the hard way that if you move while waiting for your card, you need to update your address with BOTH EDD and Bank of America separately - they don't automatically sync. The waiting is brutal when you're broke, but based on all these responses it seems like most people get theirs within the expected timeframe. Hang in there OP, you're almost through the worst part!

•This is really helpful to know about the potential for longer delays! I'm definitely going to call Bank of America tomorrow to confirm they have the right mailing date and address. It's good to know that 12 days can still be normal depending on mail delays. I'm trying to stay patient but it's so hard when you're counting on that money for basic expenses. Thanks for sharing your experience and the tip about updating addresses separately - I wouldn't have thought of that!

I went through this exact same stress a few months ago! Mine took exactly 9 business days to arrive. Here's what helped me stay sane while waiting: 1. Called Bank of America EDD (1-866-692-9374) on day 5 to confirm my address was correct - they were actually really helpful and confirmed when it was mailed 2. Set up direct deposit immediately for future payments through UI Online 3. Asked my landlord for a 3-day extension on rent just in case (most are understanding about unemployment delays) The card came in the most boring white envelope ever - seriously looked like credit card junk mail. But once I activated it, the money was available instantly. The Money Network app is decent for checking balance and transferring to your bank account. You're already 4 business days in, so you should have it by early next week based on everyone's timelines here. I know the waiting is torture when bills are due, but it will come! Just don't throw away any plain white envelopes in the meantime 😊

•This is such great practical advice! I never would have thought to ask my landlord for an extension preemptively - that's actually really smart to get ahead of it rather than scrambling at the last minute. I'm definitely going to call Bank of America tomorrow to confirm everything is on track. It's so reassuring to hear from someone who went through the exact same stress and came out the other side! The fact that yours came on day 9 gives me hope since I'm still well within that window. Thanks for taking the time to share all these helpful tips! 🙏

I'm going through the exact same thing right now! Got approved 6 days ago and have been obsessively checking my mailbox every single day. Reading through everyone's experiences here has been so helpful - I had no idea the envelope would look like junk mail or that the cards come from Ohio. One thing I'm curious about - has anyone had issues with their payment status changing from "Paid" to something else while waiting for the card? Mine still shows as paid for both weeks, but I keep paranoidly checking in case something goes wrong. Also, for those who got their cards, did you get any kind of email notification when EDD processed the payment, or does it just show up in your account? The waiting is absolutely brutal when you're broke and stressed about bills. Thanks to everyone sharing their timelines and tips - it really helps to know I'm not alone in this anxiety! Fingers crossed mine shows up in the next few days 🤞

•I totally understand that paranoia about checking your payment status! I'm on day 6 myself and doing the exact same thing. From what I've seen in other posts here, as long as it shows "Paid" you should be good - the money is already allocated to your card even if you don't have it yet. I haven't seen anyone mention getting email notifications when payments are processed, it seems like you just have to check your UI Online account. The anxiety is real though! I've been setting myself a timer to only check my account twice a day instead of constantly refreshing it. We're both right in that 7-10 business day window so hopefully our cards will arrive early next week. The plain envelope thing is definitely good to know - I'm going to be extra careful not to toss anything that looks like junk mail! Hang in there, we're almost through this waiting game 🙏

I'm in the exact same boat! Got my approval 5 days ago and have been anxiously waiting for that card to show up. Reading through everyone's experiences here has been such a relief - I was starting to worry something was wrong since it's been almost a week. The tip about the plain white envelope looking like junk mail is so helpful! I would have definitely thrown that away thinking it was spam. And I had no idea the cards come from Ohio, which explains the longer shipping time. I'm definitely going to call Bank of America tomorrow to double-check my address is correct like others suggested. It's so frustrating that there's no tracking info, but based on all these timelines it sounds like most people get theirs between days 7-10. I'm trying to stay patient but it's hard when rent is due next week! At least now I know I'm not the only one going through this stress. Thanks everyone for sharing your experiences - this community is way more helpful than trying to get through to EDD on the phone! 🙏

•I'm so glad this thread exists! I'm on day 3 of waiting and already feeling anxious about it. It's really reassuring to see everyone's consistent timelines of 7-10 business days. The plain envelope tip is HUGE - I definitely would have tossed it thinking it was credit card junk mail. I'm also going to call Bank of America tomorrow to verify my address since I saw a few people mention issues with that. The waiting is the absolute worst part, especially when you're calculating how long you can stretch your last $20! But reading everyone's success stories gives me hope that mine will show up soon too. We've got this! 💪

I'm currently on day 7 of waiting for my card after approval and this thread has been incredibly helpful! I was getting really worried since it's been a full week, but seeing everyone's consistent 7-10 business day timelines is reassuring. The plain white envelope tip is a game changer - I've been expecting something official looking with EDD branding. Now I know to carefully check every piece of mail! I called Bank of America yesterday using that 1-866-692-9374 number someone posted and they confirmed my card was mailed 5 days ago and my address is correct, so hopefully it arrives early next week. One question for those who've received their cards - did you have to sign for it or did it just show up in your regular mail? I work during the day and I'm worried about missing a delivery that requires signature. Also planning to set up direct deposit immediately once I get access to avoid this stress in the future! Thanks everyone for sharing your experiences - this community support means so much when you're stressed about finances! 🙏

•You don't need to sign for it - it just shows up in your regular mail! I was worried about the same thing since I work full time, but it gets delivered like any other piece of mail. Just make sure to check your mailbox every day because like everyone said, it really does look like junk mail in that plain white envelope. You're right on track with day 7 - most people seem to get theirs between days 8-10, so you should see it any day now! The Bank of America confirmation that it was mailed is a good sign. I'm still waiting for mine too (day 4) but reading everyone's experiences here has really helped calm my nerves about the whole process.

•This happened to my friend too! Sometimes there's a delay even when you have an existing card. Try logging into the Money Network app or website to check your balance there - sometimes it shows up there before it's reflected when you call the automated phone line. If it's been more than 48 hours since EDD shows "paid" and still nothing on your card, definitely call that Bank of America number Grace mentioned. They can tell you exactly when the funds were sent and if there are any issues with your card. The EDD system is so confusing with existing cards vs new ones!
0 coins
Grace Durand
That's a common issue! If you have an existing Money Network card that hasn't expired, EDD automatically loads funds onto that card instead of sending a new one. However, there can be delays or issues with the funds actually appearing on your existing card. Here are a few things to check: 1. Call Bank of America EDD at 1-866-692-9374 to verify the funds were actually sent to your card 2. Check if your card has any holds or restrictions that might be blocking the deposit 3. Sometimes there's a 24-48 hour delay between when EDD says "paid" and when the money actually hits the card 4. Make sure your card hasn't been deactivated for inactivity (even if it hasn't expired) If the funds were sent but aren't showing up after a couple days, Bank of America can usually trace the payment and resolve any issues. They're generally more helpful than trying to reach EDD directly!

I'm in week 2 of waiting for my card and this thread has been a lifesaver! Got approved 8 business days ago and starting to get really anxious, but seeing everyone's consistent timelines helps me realize I'm still in the normal range. Called Bank of America this morning using that number everyone's been sharing (1-866-692-9374) and they confirmed my card was mailed 6 days ago to the correct address. The rep was actually super helpful and said with recent mail delays in my area, it could take up to 12 business days total. For anyone else waiting - definitely call to confirm your address is right! Turns out they had my apartment number slightly wrong (missing a letter) but the rep was able to update it in their system. She said if my card doesn't arrive by day 10, they can send an expedited replacement. The stress is real when bills are piling up, but this community support has kept me sane. Will definitely be setting up direct deposit the second I get this card! 🤞

•Oh wow, it's so good that you caught the apartment number issue! I never would have thought to double-check those kinds of details with Bank of America directly. That's a great tip for everyone waiting. I'm on day 6 myself and was starting to worry, but hearing that mail delays can push it to 12 business days makes me feel better about the timeline. The expedited replacement option is good to know too - at least there's a backup plan if it doesn't show up by day 10. Thanks for sharing what the Bank of America rep told you, that's really helpful info! Fingers crossed both of ours arrive soon 🤞
