How long after EDD approval until Money Network card arrives in mail?
Just got my unemployment claim approved yesterday after waiting for what felt like forever! Super relieved but now I'm stressing about when I'll actually get my EDD prepaid card in the mail. My rent is due in 2 weeks and I'm cutting it close. I tried looking on the EDD website but couldn't find any clear info about delivery timeframes for the Money Network card. Has anyone received theirs recently? How long did you have to wait after your claim was approved? Is there any way to track the card or speed up delivery? Really appreciate any help!!

Congrats on the approval! In my experience, the Money Network debit card takes about 7-10 business days to arrive after your claim is approved. Mine came in exactly 8 days last month. If you're really worried about timing, you might want to check out Claimyr.com - I used their service to get through to an EDD rep when my card was delayed. They have this video demo that shows how it works: https://youtu.be/JmuwXR7HA10?si=TSwYbu_GOwYzt9km. The rep was able to tell me exactly when my card was mailed and even offered to expedite a replacement when I explained my situation.

•Thank you so much! 7-10 business days puts me right at my rent deadline... cutting it super close. I'll check out that Claimyr thing if it doesn't show up by next week. Did you have to set up an account with Money Network after you got the card or was it ready to use?

mine took OVER TWO WEEKS!! and then when it finally came the activation process was a whole other nightmare!!! EDD is THE WORST at communicating timelines for ANYTHING!! 😡

•Ugh, seriously?? Two weeks would put me way past my rent deadline. Did you call them about it or just wait? What went wrong with the activation?

To add some clarity to your question: Once your claim is approved, Bank of America (who handles the Money Network cards for EDD) typically processes and mails your card within 7-10 business days. A few important points to know: 1. First-time claims get new cards, while existing claimants usually have benefits loaded to their previous cards 2. The card ships in a plain white envelope that can look like junk mail, so check your mail carefully 3. You can check if payments have been issued through your UI Online account even before the card arrives 4. If 10 business days pass and you haven't received it, you should contact Bank of America EDD cardholder services at 1-866-692-9374 If you need funds urgently, you can request an expedited card for a fee once your regular card has been processed, but this requires speaking with Bank of America directly.

•This is incredibly helpful, thank you!! I didn't realize I could check if payments were issued before the card arrives - just checked my UI Online and it shows a payment was issued yesterday! At least I know the money is there even if I can't access it yet. And thanks for the tip about the plain envelope, I'll watch my mail carefully.

I went through this same thing back in January. My card took exactly 9 business days to arrive after my claim was approved. What a lot of people don't realize is that you can actually set up direct deposit to your personal bank account instead of using the Money Network card! I wish I had known this from the beginning. Once you get your card, log into the Money Network website, set up your account, and you can transfer funds to your personal bank. For future payments, you can set up direct deposit through your UI Online account under "Payment Preferences." It's so much more convenient than waiting for the card. BTW - the card comes in a very plain white envelope that looks like junk mail. I almost threw mine away! So check your mail carefully.

•Actually, this is incorrect information. The EDD no longer uses Bank of America for debit cards as of July 2022. They now use Money Network, and the process is different. You CAN still set up direct deposit, but you do it directly through UI Online, not through the card portal. The information about the plain envelope is correct though - they do still come in nondescript packaging.

Anyone else notice how they always seem to take FOREVER when you're desperate for money but when you're not in a rush it comes super fast?? My first card took almost 3 weeks during peak pandemic but when I reapplied last month it was here in 4 days lol. EDD timing = backwards!!

If you're really worried about making rent, you might want to call the Money Network customer service directly at 1-866-692-9374 and ask if they can expedite your card. They can sometimes send it faster for a fee (around $10 I think). Worth it if you're in a bind!

•I tried calling that number but kept getting stuck in the automated system. Do you know which options I need to press to get to a real person? I'd definitely pay $10 to get it faster!

One important thing to note: make sure your address is correct in the EDD system. If there are any discrepancies, your card could be delayed or returned. Double-check your contact information in your UI Online account right away. Also, once your card arrives, I highly recommend setting up the Money Network mobile app. You can use it to check your balance, set up alerts, and transfer funds without having to call customer service. Regarding direct deposit: yes, you can set this up through UI Online under "Payment Preferences" but only after you've received at least one payment on your card. The system requires you to have an established claim with a payment history before allowing direct deposit setup.

•Just checked my address in UI Online and it's all correct. I'll definitely set up that app once I get the card. Do you know if I can set up direct deposit right after I get the first payment, or do I need to wait for the money to actually be available on the card first?

I went through this recently. Card took exactly 8 business days to arrive after approval. If you need to speak with an actual EDD representative about your card status (which can sometimes give you more info than Money Network), use Claimyr to get through - saved me hours of frustration. Regular EDD phone system is basically impossible to navigate. One trick I learned: you can actually see if payments have been issued in your UI Online account under "Payment Activity." If it shows "Paid" status with an amount, that means the money has been sent to Money Network for your card, even if you don't physically have the card yet. This at least lets you know the process is moving along.

•Thanks for the tip about checking Payment Activity! I just looked and it shows "Paid" for this week, so I guess that means they're processing my card. Hopefully it comes on the earlier side of that timeframe. I'll give it until the end of next week before I start really panicking about rent.

I just went through this exact situation last month! My card took 6 business days to arrive after approval, which was actually faster than I expected based on what I'd read online. A couple of things that helped me during the waiting period: - Like others mentioned, definitely check your UI Online account regularly - seeing that "Paid" status gave me peace of mind even before the card arrived - I called my landlord and explained the situation. Most are understanding about unemployment delays if you communicate early rather than waiting until the due date - The card really does come in a plain white envelope that looks like junk mail - I was checking my mailbox obsessively and almost missed it! Once you get it, activation is pretty straightforward through the Money Network website. You'll need your SSN and some personal info. The whole process took me maybe 10 minutes online. Fingers crossed yours arrives on the earlier side of that 7-10 day window! The waiting is definitely the worst part.

•Thank you so much for the detailed response! That's really reassuring to hear yours came in 6 days. I actually did reach out to my landlord yesterday and explained the situation - luckily she's been pretty understanding with other tenants going through similar stuff. I'll definitely keep obsessively checking my mail and make sure not to toss anything that looks like junk mail! Did you have any issues with the activation process, or was it really as smooth as you described?

I'm in almost the exact same boat as you! Just got approved yesterday too and my rent is due in about 2 weeks. Reading through all these responses is making me feel a bit better - sounds like most people get theirs within that 7-10 day window. I'm going to follow the advice here and check my UI Online account daily to watch for that "Paid" status, and definitely going to be extra careful about checking all my mail. The fact that you already see a payment issued is a really good sign! I'm keeping my fingers crossed for both of us that our cards arrive closer to the 6-8 day mark rather than the 10+ day horror stories. This whole process is so stressful when you're cutting it close financially. Thanks for asking this question - the responses have been super helpful!

•Hey! I'm so glad I'm not the only one in this situation - it's such a relief to know there are others going through the exact same timing stress! I've been refreshing my UI Online account like every few hours since reading these responses, and seeing that "Paid" status really did help calm my nerves a bit. I'm definitely going to be checking my mail super carefully from now on - the thought of accidentally throwing away my lifeline because it looks like junk mail is terrifying! It sounds like we both have pretty understanding landlords which is honestly such a blessing during times like this. I'm really hoping we both get our cards on the earlier end of that timeline. This whole experience has taught me I definitely need to look into setting up direct deposit once I get through this initial card situation. Fingers crossed for both of us! 🤞
