EDD Money Network card delivery time after payment approval?
Hi everyone, I just got my EDD claim approved yesterday (finally!) and saw that my first payment has been processed. I'm confused about when I'll actually receive my Money Network card though. The EDD website just says it will be mailed, but doesn't mention any timeframe. This is my first time on unemployment and I'm really counting on this money to pay rent next week. Does anyone know approximately how long it takes for the card to arrive after your payment shows as approved? I'm in the Sacramento area if that makes any difference for mail delivery. Thanks!

Congrats on getting approved! The Money Network card usually takes 7-10 business days to arrive after your first payment shows as approved. They ship it standard mail, so there's no tracking available. Make sure your mailing address is correct in your UI Online account because if they send it to the wrong address, it can take 2-3 weeks to get a replacement. Once you have the card, you can set up direct deposit if you prefer that for future payments.

•Thank you! That's longer than I was hoping... is there any way to expedite it? I really need to make my rent payment next week.

When I got my card in January, it took exactly 8 days from my first payment approval. The EDD system is pretty consistent with this timeframe. One thing to note - when it arrives, you'll need to activate it immediately by calling the number on the sticker. Also, set up your online account with Money Network right away so you can easily transfer funds to your personal bank account. For future payments, they'll be loaded onto the same card automatically, usually within 24-48 hours after certification.

•Thank you for the detailed info! I'll make sure to set everything up right away when it arrives. Fingers crossed it comes on the earlier side of that timeframe.

•Oh no, that sounds like a nightmare! I just double-checked and my name is correct in the system. Did they give you any kind of emergency payment option when that happened?

THE ENTIRE EDD SYSTEM IS A JOKE!!! I waited THREE WEEKS for my card and when I called they said it was "in process" and couldn't tell me ANYTHING more specific. They act like we don't have bills to pay! Why can't they use expedited shipping when people are DESPERATE for their benefits??? Meanwhile they make MILLIONS in interest holding our money!!!! My landlord almost evicted me while I was waiting. The system is DESIGNED to make us suffer.

•I understand your frustration, but the standard timeframe is 7-10 business days for most people. If it's been longer than that, there might have been an issue with your specific card or mailing address. The EDD doesn't actually make interest on the funds - Money Network (Bank of America's partner) manages the cards and fund distribution.

If you're in a real bind waiting for your card, you might want to try contacting EDD directly. I was in a similar situation last month and needed to talk to a rep about expediting. Normal calls wouldn't go through (always busy), but I used Claimyr.com and got connected to an EDD rep in about 35 minutes. They couldn't expedite my card, but they were able to confirm it had been mailed and gave me the exact date it was sent out which helped me plan better. They have a video that shows how it works: https://youtu.be/JmuwXR7HA10?si=TSwYbu_GOwYzt9km - it was honestly worth it just to get concrete information instead of stressing in the dark.

•Thanks for the suggestion! I might try that if it doesn't arrive by the end of next week. At least knowing exactly when it was mailed would help me plan.

Anyone know if you can pick up the card in person at an EDD office? My cousin said she did that during Covid but I'm not sure if that's still a thing

•No, this is incorrect information. EDD offices never distributed the debit cards in person, even during COVID. The cards are issued by Money Network (which partners with Bank of America), not directly by EDD. They're always sent through regular mail from their card processing center. There's no option to pick them up anywhere in person.

I got approved last month and my card took exactly 9 days to arrive. Then I set up direct deposit right away so I didn't have to deal with the card again. Also make sure you check your spam folder for emails from Money Network because they send you notifications when funds are loaded.

Thanks everyone for your responses! Sounds like I should expect it sometime next week based on the 7-10 day timeframe most of you mentioned. I'll call my landlord and explain the situation. And I'll definitely set up direct deposit as soon as I get the card to make things easier for future payments. I'll update here when it arrives!

One more tip - when your card arrives, take a photo of the front and back (covering the security code) and save it somewhere secure. If you ever lose the card, having the card number will make it much faster to report and replace. Also, the first time you log into the Money Network account, write down your user ID somewhere safe because their password reset system requires it and it's not always the same as your email address.

•That's a really smart tip, thank you! I'll definitely do that.
